PB hotel design editorial

Few casino hotels on the Las Vegas Strip have had a stranger origin story than The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The project began as a condominium development, changed hands when its original developer defaulted during the 2008 financial crisis, and was completed by Deutsche Bank — an unlikely hotel operator — before opening in 2010 at a reported cost of around three billion dollars. The two elliptical glass towers, rising 52 stories above the Strip and designed by Friedmutter Group, carry that residential DNA into the hotel's 3,000-plus rooms and suites, most of which are unusually generous by Strip standards and many of which include terraces — a rarity at this scale. The interiors navigate the range you'd expect from a property assembled across multiple design teams. Guest rooms shift register between tiers: some carry a moodier, graphite-and-charcoal palette with channeled upholstered headboards and portrait photography on the walls, while others push into a bolder graphic language — gold-foil typographic wallcoverings, deep navy leather bedheads, brass hardware catching the desert light through floor-to-ceiling glazing. The pool deck, spread at the base of the curved glass facade, layers aqua-tiled water features with purple chaise longues under timber-framed pergolas. In the food and beverage spaces, a more theatrical ambition takes over: curved white banquettes, smoked-glass pendant clusters, and neon-lit arches give the dining rooms a cinematic Art Deco inflection, while the race and sports book leans into warm copper surfaces and saturated amber lighting.

"This was my second time staying at this hotel. Last year, I was very satisfied, which is why I chose it again despite having many other options. Unfortunately, this time it was a regret, and I would not choose The Cosmopolitan again. I noticed a decline in quality and several issues during my stay. First, it took several minutes for the shower water to become warm, which resulted in a significant waste of both time and water. Additionally, the in-room safe stopped working because its battery had died. Although this is a simple issue, it took about two hours to fix. During that time, I had to remain in the room waiting. It was also difficult to reach the front desk—it took around 10 minutes for them to answer the phone. This made me wonder what would happen in case of a vital emergency. On the positive side, the location is excellent and very convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions. However, due to these issues, I would not return to this hotel. In Las Vegas, there are many excellent alternatives available"

"I stayed at this hotel for three nights on the 46th floor. Unfortunately, the hot water was not functioning properly. Every time I wanted to take a shower, I had to leave the water running for about 15 minutes before it gradually became warm, which is not acceptable, especially considering the global water shortage concerns. Additionally, the sound insulation between rooms and even the entrance doors was very poor. At around 3 a.m., the guest in the next room was arguing loudly with his wife, which woke me up. Even the noise from children watching TV in the neighboring room was clearly audible in our room. The customer service was also weak. When calling the front desk, they either did not answer or responded with significant delays. On the positive side, the room itself was clean, and the beds were very comfortable."

"The Cosmopolitan ripped me off charging $1200 to my card that I did NOT approve instead of charging the card the room was booked on. Now I have to go deal with my bank and employer. Why is their mistake my problem to fix???? Don't trust them with your credit card. Go somewhere else!"

"My wife and I have stayed at the Cosmopolitan for the past eight years and were even married at the property, so writing this review is genuinely disappointing for us. We have always loved the hotel and have recommended it to many friends over the years, which makes this experience particularly frustrating. We recently booked a five-night stay to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, the condition of the room and the overall service response were far below what we have come to expect from this property. When we arrived, the room had obvious cleanliness issues. The pillowcase on the bed had what appeared to be blood and mucus on it, and there was dried dark liquid on the wall. The outdoor patio furniture was also extremely dirty, making the balcony space essentially unusable. Several items in the room were also not functioning. The TV did not work, the room phone did not work (which made contacting the front desk difficult), and the light above the bar area was not working. Because the phone in the room was inoperable, I had to text the front desk each time someone attempted to address the TV issue. Another frustrating issue involved a personal pillow my wife brought from home with a silk pillowcase. Housekeeping removed it during cleaning, and when I reported this to the front desk I was told it would likely be difficult to locate and there was no offer to attempt to retrieve it. I documented the condition of the room with photos and showed them to staff during the stay. Out of respect for privacy I am not posting those images here, but they were shared with staff and I would be happy to provide them again if requested. What was most disappointing was the resolution offered. The only compensation provided was a comp of the resort fees for four of the five nights. Given the cleanliness concerns, the maintenance issues, and the loss of a personal item, this response felt inadequate and dismissive of the overall experience. Having stayed here regularly for many years, we have unfortunately noticed what feels like a steady decline in the guest experience since the MGM integration. This property used to stand out in Las Vegas for service and attention to detail, which is why this stay was so surprising. After this visit, we unfortunately feel this may have been our last stay at the Cosmopolitan. If someone from the property or MGM guest relations would like to review our stay and contact us, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss it further. I’m sharing this experience simply because it is the type of information I would want to know if I were considering a stay here."
