PB hotel design editorial

Constructing Venice on the Las Vegas Strip — complete with working gondolas, a replica Campanile, and facades drawn directly from the Doge's Palace and Ca' d'Oro — was either an act of architectural hubris or a precise reading of what the Strip has always been: a place where simulation is the point. The Venetian, which opened in 1999 on the site of the demolished Sands Hotel, was developed by Sheldon Adelson and designed by the WAT&G architecture firm at a construction cost exceeding $1.5 billion. At 35 stories and originally 3,036 all-suite rooms, it was among the largest hotels on earth at opening, the Grand Canal Shoppes threading an interior canal through its retail floors above a 120,000-square-foot casino. What saves the property from pure theme-park territory is the sheer scale of its interior ambition. The guest suites, visible in these images, carry a restrained neoclassical palette — tufted upholstered headboards in tobacco leather, damask-patterned carpets in taupe and grey, gold-framed artwork arranged in formal salon grids — that deliberately sidesteps the Venetian Gothic excess of the exterior. The two-level suites divide sleeping and living quarters across a wrought-iron balustrade stair, lending genuine spatial drama. In the dining spaces, brass-framed pendant lights and burnished copper velvet seating establish something closer to contemporary brasserie than Italian pastiche, while the pool terrace frames the replica Campanile in palm-lined desert light — a juxtaposition that only Las Vegas could make feel entirely natural.

"We chose The Venetian specifically because of its reputation as one of Las Vegas' premier resorts and because of its convenient indoor access to the Sphere. We paid a premium to stay here expecting a premium experience. Unfortunately, our stay was marked by one disappointment after another. A water main issue left us with little to no water pressure for most of our stay. We were unable to properly shower and ended up washing ourselves with bottled water. To make matters worse, the water that was available appeared brown and full of sediment. Even after spending the day hoping the issue would be resolved, we still could not shower before our concert. Then, to add to the frustration, the indoor access route to the Sphere—the very reason we chose this hotel over others—was closed. Instead of the convenient connection we expected, we were directed outside and had to walk along crowded Las Vegas streets to reach the venue. The water issue was not addressed until nearly 2:00 a.m., when maintenance arrived and worked on the shower while my wife was already in bed. By that point, the inconvenience had already impacted much of our trip. To their credit, the staff was courteous and eventually refunded the resort fees and part of an upgrade package. However, when you choose a luxury resort and pay luxury prices, you expect basic amenities like clean running water and access to the features that influenced your booking decision. We enjoyed Las Vegas and the concert, but unfortunately The Venetian was the most disappointing part of the trip."

"Everything has changed at this hotel. You wait 20 minutes on the house phone to speak to anyone in Housekeeping, Front desk, or Concierge services. Very frustrating especially when it’s late at night! Room wasn’t very clean and cans of coke were missing from the bar and they wanted to charge me 3 times even after I told them it was a mistake! And most importantly, they no longer will provide you with a down or feather pillow but instead, use only the cheapest $10.00 pillows that they can find. Very corporate and hotel lacks the warmth and hospitality it used to have."

"I’m writing this review because of the phenomenal customer service I received during my stay. I was scheduled for 3 days but called on the 2nd day to say I wasn’t feeling well because the AC didn’t go off all night and I woke up with a cold. I called to ask if there was a penalty if I checked out a day early to go home. I was transferred to a lady at the front desk whose name I unfortunately do not have but the manager knows who she is because she did put a note on my room. 20326. About an hour after my phone call someone showed up to my room with a cup from Venetian with a teabag in it, Bottle of water with the kindest note saying they hope I feel better. I was stunned that the lady I spoke to paid attention to what I told her and not only that, she took it upon herself to do something about it. I have never had such customer service anywhere. I found the hotel manager to tell him what the lady did as I thought she deserves recognition.. He changed my room for one with a view because I was having problems with the AC. I was changed to room 33312 which was absolutely beautiful. I can’t say enough about how appreciative I am of their hospitality. Vegas in general has become very expensive, particularly with resort fees added to the room cost, so I don’t know when I’ll be back but when I go back, I definitely will stay at Venetian.Best experience I’ve had in a very long time!!"

"Nice hotel many benefits. But I was disappointed that at check in the lady talked up to an upgrade for 70 for a view but at the end charged us 85. I called to fix it but they said the charge was 75 plus tax. I mean I guess it is what it is but I felt scammed"
