PB hotel design editorial

Converted from a tower within the Mandalay Bay resort complex on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip, the Delano Las Vegas repurposed an existing MGM Resorts property when it relaunched in 2014 — carrying a brand name with considerable design pedigree. The original Delano South Beach, opened in 1995 and transformed by Philippe Starck for Ian Schrager, established a template for irreverent, all-white interiors set against maximalist surroundings. The Las Vegas iteration translates that sensibility into 1,117 all-suite rooms distributed across 43 floors of gold-glazed curtain wall that catches the desert light at dusk in the images here, the tower's bronzed reflective skin shifting from amber to deep copper as the sun drops behind the Spring Mountains. The interiors maintain the Delano DNA of pale neutrality against dramatic scale — tufted white leather headboards rising nearly to ceiling height, geometric-patterned carpets in dove grey, chrome side tables, and floor-to-ceiling glass framing panoramic Strip views that do the decorative work no object could match. The rooftop terrace restaurant, visible in the images with its mix of olive and teal bistro chairs against the gold-mirrored facade, deploys the same restrained palette against one of the more arresting urban backdrops in American hospitality. At ground level, the pool deck is dressed in pale travertine and powder-blue umbrellas, the surrounding palm grove softening the hard geometry of the towers above.

"Rarely do I feel compelled to review a hotel as my needs are fairly basic and expectations are measured. The W Las Vegas though is an absolute disgrace. I have stayed there on and off for 15 years (THE hotel, Delano and W) so this isn't a moan but a rational appraisal of a shocking waste of money and a decline in standards. Firstly no criticism of the housekeeping staff as the room was clean. My wife and I booked a suite with a king bed with stadium views. Check in staff at 3am, after a long delayed flight, stated that " the only available room is with 2 queens and airport view". I informed him that that was not what I booked but his attitude was that it was clearly my fault and I should have known better than to have made a specific booking. The following day they still had no suites with a king which of course was utterly preposterous. I had no idea that there was building work going on in the hotel and the bar was closed (why couldn't they have communicated this?) and it was therefore noisy, dusty and inconvenient. The concierge closed at 7pm - really in Vegas! The shop of course is not open at night so if you want a bottle of water you can get it from the minibar.......................for $25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When this hotel was fine, actually good, I never reviewed it as that is normal but my aim in writing this is to make others aware you have a choice. If this review negatively influences your choice then perhaps the owners of this hotel will do something to remember we are their customers and they should treat us accordingly."

"We were upgraded from the Mandalay Bar when we checked in. Our room near the elevator was noisy all night and no one told us here would be construction down 3 levels in the morning. Really hated the hotel compared to the Encore where we always stay - but stayed here because of the Licensing Show. Would not ray here again. It was very Smokey in the casino and was hard to stay there to gamble."

"Terrible experience from the get-go. Checked in via the app at 3:30pm and waited for the update status to change. It's now 11pm and my room (that was booked 4 months ahead) was still not available. Went to the front desk and their excuse was they overbooked so no rooms w/ 2 queens I paid for was available. No apologies from the manager Jasmine nor even showing her face. She hid like a coward and had the nerve to not approve a simple room upgrade that was available so that my kids and I could get checked in at this late hour. After the longest time they put us in a room "temporarily" that had one bed and offered a roll-away bed. Assured us that we would moved the next day to the 2 queen-bed room. Never called us. Called down and they said no they won't move us. Ok, so to not ruin our vacation, we just stayed and didn't bother going back to the front desk to complain. End of trip and check-out...guess what...they billed us for the roll- away bed! LOL Of course had to call to get it removed from the bill which they did. Unbelievable. Poor management by Jasmine! This could've been such a simple fix to smooth things out for us as long-time guests (over 20 years of staying at Delano which is now The W). Never had issues when it was The Delano. This is why hotels go under, not because of slow tourism, it's because of crappy managers like Jasmine that don't resolve simple issues."

"Been staying at Mandalay bay and Delano (as well as when it changed to The W for many years but for my 50th birthday decided to come to Vegas and stayed at the W (previously Delano). This is the last time we will ever stay at this hotel. They don't seem to be in the hospitality industry anymore. It's 11:30pm after we did the mobile check in since 3:30pm and they still don't have our room ready. I paid for 2 queen bed, they said they only had a king left which is not what I paid for. The manager named Jasmine seems to be tone deaf. Won’t be long before hotels like this go out of business when they have the wrong people in managment. She never came out to speak with me to address the problem nor make things right. Thier excuse was they overbooked. I booked this room 4 months ago and they said that doesn't matter. Service has definitely gone downhill. I'll go back to booking at the Bellagio and the Venetian."

"We love this property. The rooms are spacious. The staff is excellent. They are undergoing major renovation of the lobby area. It is cramped and noisy to walk through. There is no place to get food or beverages in the lobby. You have to walk through the building chaos to get to Mandalay Bay and the casino. If I had paid full price it would have been disappointing. Just be aware that the much needed renovations are going on until fall. Cannot wait to see the finished space."
