PB hotel design editorial

Two curved towers sheathed in bronze-tinted glass rise from a landscape of waterfalls, mature pines, and flowering bougainvillea on the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip — a deliberate inversion of everything the Strip had represented before Steve Wynn commissioned architect DeRuyter Butler to design what became Wynn Las Vegas in 2005. The $2.7 billion property, followed by its companion tower Encore in 2008, together delivering over 4,700 rooms across 45 and 48 floors respectively, set a new register for the American casino resort by orienting the building away from the street rather than toward it, wrapping the exterior in curated gardens that feel closer to a Kyoto inn than a Nevada gaming floor. The interiors, largely directed by Roger Thomas of Wynn Design and Development, move between registers with considerable range. Guest rooms in the original tower pair crimson accent walls and gilded mirror frames with cream upholstery and floor-to-ceiling Strip views; rooms facing the golf course side run warmer, with honey-toned wood paneling, bas-relief wall art, and sienna-and-sand textiles that echo the desert mountains beyond. The pool terraces deploy striped canvas cabanas in turquoise and amber, their mediterranean formality landing somewhere between Riviera beach club and English garden party. Most recently, the Overlook Lounge has been transformed into a theatrical space of gilded bronze palm-tree light fixtures, swirling Art Deco carpets, and a lacquered concert grand — glamour calibrated to feel earned rather than performed.

Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Reviews

"The Wynn far exceeded every expectation, coming to Vegas for a last minute getaway with my husband. The property was gorgeous, from the lobby to the room to every bar and restaurant we ate in. We didn't spend much time gambling or shopping this trip, but everywhere we ate was incredible, the bars all had their fun twist and the service, especially the front desk staff, was incredible. Special reccos: Aft Bar before dinner for an outdoor, golden lit cocktail, Pisces for incredible seafood - we chose to sit at the bar because it was beautiful and such a vibe, Casa Playa at Encore - this was the late night spot still serving dinner with a chill DJ when we arrived at 10PM, and it was one of the most beautiful restaurants we've been. Not a huge buffet person, The Buffet absolutely blew my mind with it's offerings. Biggest buffet I think I've ever seen, including everything from a crepe station to fresh rolled sushi and it was all so good! I'm not sure we would have even been, if it was included with our room. Definitely don't miss Delilah for a dinner or dessert and after dinner drink with a show. It's so fun! Finally, going to sleep and waking up in such a beautiful room was perhaps the most underrated part of the entire trip! We loved it so much, we can't wait to come back both with our girls and our friends!"

"Truly the best casino on the strip. If you’re playing games (roulette, poker, blackjack,) you definitely don’t need to leave the hotel. Everything that you need is at the Wynn."

"Great Stay at the Towers. We had a small quite and it really makes a difference having a private entrance. The staff it great and you can skip the lines at the Terrace for breakfast. The room is large and comfortable and the bathroom huge!"

"I recently stayed at Wynn Las Vegas and overall the property itself is beautiful, clean, luxurious, and exactly what you expect from a high-end resort. Dining was a highlight of the trip. We went to Delilah and it was a great experience with amazing atmosphere, live entertainment, and attentive service. The only downside there is the strict no-photos policy, but a helpful tip is that if reservations look full, check again the day of because seats do open up if you’re flexible. The biggest issue was the booking situation, which was honestly very frustrating. I specifically booked and paid for an Encore room, but upon arrival I was assigned a Wynn room instead because Encore was sold out. I spoke with Nick at the front desk about the issue, and while he was polite, I was essentially told I would just need to accept the change. I didn’t do anything wrong, I reserved and paid for a specific product but yet I was left trying to figure out how to get some sort of credit or resolution instead of the hotel proactively making it right. When I spoken with Nick at the front desk he said they could upgrade me at Encore for an additional $200 since the room category I booked was sold out, when all I wanted was the room I had already paid for. Wynn rooms are still very nice, but the handling of this situation fell far below what I would expect from a five-star resort. Overall, it’s a beautiful property with great dining, but the lack of accountability around the booking error took away from the experience a great deal."

"Overall had a positive experience. The property is absolutely huge, beautifully maintained, and feels luxurious from the moment you walk in. Our room was modern, high-tech, and digitally controlled, which made everything very convenient. It was nicely cleaned, well equipped, and had a clean washroom along with a great view. The restaurants we tried were excellent, and we appreciated the overall ambiance of the resort. However, we did experience an issue with the air conditioning not working properly. An engineer came to replace the AC filter, which temporarily caused some dust in the room. Since we had informed the hotel in advance that we were visiting for our honeymoon and that I am sensitive to contamination, we were hoping for a small special touch or extra attention in that regard, but nothing additional was arranged. Aside from the AC inconvenience, we truly enjoyed our stay and found the hotel to be elegant, comfortable, and well-managed. We would consider staying again."
