PB hotel design editorial

Half a block from the Palace of the Governors on Santa Fe's historic plaza, a building conceived entirely within the Pueblo Revival idiom — hand-stacked adobe walls, protruding vigas, rough-hewn timber portals — has given the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi its quietly authoritative presence since 1991. The four-storey property was designed to feel as though it had always been there, and in the low afternoon light off the Sangre de Cristo mountains, it very nearly convinces. Inside, the 58 rooms carry the same material logic through: log-beam ceilings with tongue-and-groove pine infill, corner kiva fireplaces finished in smooth white plaster, wide-plank oak floors, and bed runners in Pendleton-weight geometric textiles that pull the Ancestral Puebloan reference into something tactile rather than decorative. Nailhead-trimmed leather headboards and round burnished mirrors anchor the rooms in a contemporary register without severing their connection to the regional vernacular. The public spaces deepen the conversation. The restaurant moves between two atmospheres — a brighter daytime room of oak floors, live-edge wood tables, and upholstered barrel chairs beneath exposed log ceilings, and an evening space where dry-stacked stone walls, candlelight, and linen-covered banquettes create something closer to a territorial-era trading room than a hotel dining room. Throughout, Southwestern pottery, Indigenous ceramics, and original artwork from the hotel's curated collection are placed with the confidence of a private home rather than the caution of a collection on display.

Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi Reviews

"I was rather disappointed by our stay here. I booked through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts so expected the usual elevated experience. The hotel is smaller than I'd thought and quality just not quite up to par. 1. There was no room service menu in the room so I called but got a recording each time so I left a message. No one called back but some time later a QR code was dropped off at the door...but it was for the room bar, listing prices for the soft drinks and alcohol! I'd wanted to order breakfast. 2. The service at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was very good. The smoked salmon bagel was excellent but the pastries basket (powdered sugar sprinkled on: croissant, chocolate croissant, and berry strudel) was very mediocre. The other breakfast items and dinner were all decent enough but not great. 3. There was constant noise outside our room of carts being rolled down the hall, doors slamming, and other miscellaneous noises by the staff. 4. The bathroom smelled of bleach the first day, which is not pleasant and actually toxic. 5. The location was good as we walked everywhere but it is on the northern edge of downtown, not the center. I don't generally write bad reviews but felt others should know what to expect. Nothing truly bad but not wonderful enough to warrant a return visit."

"We have now had two disappointing stays at this hotel. It certainly did not meet our expectations for a luxury hotel. The bar is quite small and was full two evenings. When we asked an assistant manager at the front desk if he could suggest nearby alternatives for happy hour his reply was "Why would I do that?" When parking our vehicle, valet was often absent, and the doorman made no effort to walk the few steps to the curb to take our keys. The rooms are well appointed, and housekeeping was helpful, friendly, and efficient. We visit Santa Fe often and have stayed at La Fonda, Inn on the Alameda, Eldorado, and Inn at Spoleto, the St. Francis, and even the Drury Inn (if we are just there overnight with our dog while in transit to somewhere else). We also frequent luxury hotels in New York, DC, London, Rome and Athens. Based upon our experiences with the staff and facilities at those hotels and our experiences at the Inn at the Anasazi, the other Santa Fe hotels offer reasonable alternatives without having to pay the hefty price. We expected much better from a Rosewood property."

"My husband and I stayed here four nights during December. The staff was always friendly and helpful. There is a car that will drive you within a 3 mile radius of the hotel. The hotel is right off of the main plaza of Santa Fe so it is walking distance to most restaurants and sightseeing. There are two rooms on the entrance floor that are nice seating areas with lovely fireplaces and decor. Breakfast was included with our room rate and it is ordered off of a menu. The food was ok. Our king sized bed room was nicely decorated, had a very nice gas fire place with two arm chairs, as well as a desk, some drawers, a mini fridge and a tray of complimentary snacks and nightly cookies. The room was not huge but it was roomy enough. There is a nice sized closet and safe. The towels and linens were nice, there were outlets on both sides of the bed. Lighting was fine. The bathroom was not large but it did have 2 sinks and some room on the vanity and a shelf for items as well as a nice Dyson hairdryer. The shower was nice sized with a one head adjustable shower head. Turn down service was provided. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend this hotel."

"We stayed at The Inn of the Anasazi and overall it was pleasant, but didn’t quite live up to the price tag. The bathrooms felt a bit dated — there was no fan, some of the grout and paint were peeling or pulling away, and the toilet lid lacked a soft-close feature, so it would slam shut unexpectedly. These little things made it feel less “luxury” than I expected. On the food front, I felt the prices were high for what was offered. At those rates, I was hoping for something more distinctive or creative. On the plus side, the valet team was wonderful — quick, professional, and helpful. In sum: it wasn’t a bad stay by any means, but it didn’t quite leave a lasting impression. Especially after coming from Bishop’s Lodge, it felt a little underwhelming in comparison."
