PB hotel design editorial

Three connected barn forms rise from a former tree nursery in Gardiner, New York, their asymmetrical gabled rooflines pulling the eye toward the Shawangunk Ridge beyond — a gesture that announces the design ambitions of Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection, before you've stepped inside. Opened in 2022, the property was conceived by Los Angeles-based Electric Bowery, whose main lodge structures employ stacked stone, Corten steel, and repurposed timber to suggest something that grew from this 140-acre landscape rather than arrived on it. The open pavilion at the center — its heavy-timbered trusses framing a fire pit and an unobstructed view of the meadow beyond — captures the firm's nature-immersive ethos most directly, collapsing the boundary between building and field. Ward and Gray, the New York studio responsible for the interiors, brought a sensibility that sits somewhere between Adirondack lodge and well-traveled collector's farmhouse. The great room layers deep-cushioned velvet banquettes and bouclé lounge chairs against tongue-and-groove pine ceilings and a terracotta-plastered fireplace wall hung with a folk-art textile — Arts and Crafts warmth without the earnestness. Guest rooms across the 65 freestanding cabins and cottages continue that register: oak four-poster beds, moss-green velvet sofas, kilim rugs, and aged-wood credenzas under vaulted ceilings finished in lime plaster. Every material feels chosen rather than specified, which earned the property a win at Architectural Digest's 2023 Great Design Awards.

"This is a perfect place to go to unwind and relax, and only 90 minutes from NYC. The entire bucolic "campus" is peaceful and quiet with separate cabins for each guest, and with a great view of the Shawangunks. All the staff are super friendly and attentive, and try to learn and remember guests' names. The yoga class instructors were all excellent and the spa treatments were top notch as well. The restaurant had a good variety of options at every meal and all the food was delicious. There are nice, easy walking trails and if you enjoy watching farm animals, the pigs are quite entertaining, and the only breed that has hair (from a distance, we thought they were sheep)."

"A great overall weekend trip for my husband's birthday. He took advantage of the Thistle Spa on Friday and we both really enjoyed the quality of the gym over the weekend too. All of the staff members were friendly, outgoing, and very helpful. We really appreciated getting to know Megan, our server, on the Great Porch (and she had some great cocktail recommendations!). The food in Clay for breakfast and lunch was delicious too. Make sure to try the Apple Cider Muffin for breakfast and the staff were incredibly kind in bringing an extra dessert for the birthday celebration. I would also recommend using the Mercedes car service while on property, which allows you to take out a loaner car for up to four hours. It was a great way to explore more of the Hudson Valley."

"Our stay was absolutely amazing. The property itself is beautiful, with thoughtfully designed spaces that make the entire experience feel relaxing and special from the moment you arrive. The service was exceptional throughout our visit—every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our stay memorable. The food was outstanding. As someone who appreciates great gluten-free options, I have to say the gluten-free bread was the best I’ve ever tasted. Every meal felt carefully prepared and full of flavor. We also loved the culinary classes—they were fun, engaging, and a great way to experience the local cuisine in a hands-on way. The staff running the classes were knowledgeable and welcoming, which made the experience even better. What really stood out was the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality from the entire team. Everyone went above and beyond to ensure guests felt cared for. I would absolutely recommend staying here and would happily return."

"We just returned from two blissful nights at Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection, and it exceeded every expectation. Nestled on 140 acres in Gardiner, NY, this property feels like a true sanctuary—meadows of native wildflowers swaying in the breeze, stunning views of the Shawangunk Ridge, and that perfect blend of rustic charm and refined luxury. Our freestanding cabin was absolutely stunning: spacious, thoughtfully designed with natural materials, floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the outdoors in, a cozy gas fireplace (which we kept burning the whole time), and a private patio where we sipped morning coffee watching the light change over the fields. It felt completely private and peaceful—exactly what we needed to unwind. The farm-to-table dining at Clay was a highlight. Every meal showcased hyper-local, seasonal ingredients from their on-site farm—fresh, flavorful, and creatively prepared. Breakfast was hearty and wholesome, lunch light yet satisfying, and dinner was an absolute treat with impeccable service. We also loved the little touches, like the evening s’mores by the fire pit and the thoughtful wellness focus throughout. The Thistle Spa was pure relaxation— we indulged in treatments that left us floating. The indoor/outdoor pool, hot tubs, and grounds for wandering or light hiking made it easy to disconnect and recharge. Staff were genuinely warm, attentive, and knowledgeable about the area, making every interaction feel personal. At a time when true escapes are hard to find, Wildflower Farms delivers an authentic connection to nature without sacrificing comfort or sophistication. It’s no surprise it was voted #1 resort in New York—it’s earned every accolade. We can’t wait to return in another season to see the property transform again. Thank you to the entire team for an exceptional stay. Highly, highly recommend—5 stars aren’t enough!"
