PB hotel design editorial

Three connected barn forms rise from a former tree nursery in Gardiner, New York, their asymmetrical gabled rooflines pulling the eye toward the Shawangunk Ridge beyond — a gesture that announces the design ambitions of Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection, before you've stepped inside. Opened in 2022, the property was conceived by Los Angeles-based Electric Bowery, whose main lodge structures employ stacked stone, Corten steel, and repurposed timber to suggest something that grew from this 140-acre landscape rather than arrived on it. The open pavilion at the center — its heavy-timbered trusses framing a fire pit and an unobstructed view of the meadow beyond — captures the firm's nature-immersive ethos most directly, collapsing the boundary between building and field. Ward and Gray, the New York studio responsible for the interiors, brought a sensibility that sits somewhere between Adirondack lodge and well-traveled collector's farmhouse. The great room layers deep-cushioned velvet banquettes and bouclé lounge chairs against tongue-and-groove pine ceilings and a terracotta-plastered fireplace wall hung with a folk-art textile — Arts and Crafts warmth without the earnestness. Guest rooms across the 65 freestanding cabins and cottages continue that register: oak four-poster beds, moss-green velvet sofas, kilim rugs, and aged-wood credenzas under vaulted ceilings finished in lime plaster. Every material feels chosen rather than specified, which earned the property a win at Architectural Digest's 2023 Great Design Awards.

"My family of 9 (including 2 kids and one dog) came to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday... and Wildflower Farms did not disappoint. Everything about our stay was perfect. The venue, the property, the food, the amenities, the activities, the rooms were absolutely perfect. The Wildflower Farms team were extremely attentive, accommodating, proactive and responsive. We loved this "perfect" family celebration."

"The experience in Wildflower Farm is much better than expected. I have heard about this hotel for a long time, but it is only after staying there for three nights I could tell what is the difference from other hotels. The entire service team is professional and helpful. The spa area is also perfect."

"An absolutely incredible experience. Wildflower Farms and their staff have an attention to detail that I have not seen at many places where I have stayed. From the beautiful location, to the attentive staff, to the amazing food to the overall vibe it is one of those places you never want to leave."

"We had a truly memorable stay at Wildflower Farms—it’s easily one of my favorite Auberge Resorts Collection properties in the U.S. If you’ve stayed at Stanly Ranch and loved it, you’ll feel very at home here. The overall concept and flow are quite similar—nature-forward, wellness-oriented, and thoughtfully designed—but Wildflower Farms brings its own Hudson Valley charm. The cabin-style accommodations are a standout. Every room is fully detached, which creates a level of privacy and quiet that’s hard to find. We didn’t hear another guest our entire stay. Between that, the bedding (excellent across the board), and the setting, I had some of the best sleep I’ve had all year. Service was consistently strong. Housekeeping refreshed the room at least twice daily—often more—with turndown done thoughtfully each night. The turndown gifts were particularly well done and felt intentional rather than generic: a pastry from the chef, a locally made healing salve (perfect after a long day of hiking), and even a full bottle of reishi tincture. We also received a parting gift of locally made organic granola, which was a nice final touch. The property does a great job meeting guests where they are. Pre-arrival communication is seamless—you can check in from your phone and choose to communicate via text or WhatsApp, which is a small but meaningful detail. The included programming is also a highlight: at least two (included) classes daily (with optional additions for purchase, like reformer pilates and mixology classes), along with grounding activities like feeding the animals or walking the farm in the morning. The gym is excellent, and having a reformer available for guest use without restriction is a rare and appreciated feature. The spa and massage treatments were outstanding, and we loved the option to drive one of the on-site Mercedes vehicles (we took out an all-electric G-Wagon for an evening, which was a fun, unique perk). There are a few areas where the experience could be tightened to better match the overall level of the property. The yoga studio and gym itself is beautiful, but the mats did not appear to be cleaned between classes, which stands out in a wellness-forward environment. The gym's cleaning wipes were also empty all days that we went. Morning coffee was also below the standard you’d expect at this price point—something small, but it sets the tone for the day. Food & beverage is a bit mixed. Lunch was consistently very good, and the inclusion of a full snack minibar with non-alcoholic beverages is a great touch (though it felt slightly inconsistent that refills come at an added cost). Dinner was unfortunately the biggest miss of the stay—especially relative to the quality and pricing of the rest of the experience. While the restaurant operates separately, it does impact the overall hotel experience. That said, these are refinements rather than dealbreakers. The setting, privacy, programming, and overall feel of the property are exceptional. The entire stay felt calm, restorative, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. We would absolutely return."

"We had a fantastic midweek stay at Wildflower Farms and will definitely be back. Traveling with our two small dogs, we really appreciated how genuinely dog-friendly the property is, and it made the whole experience feel relaxed from the start. The service was warm and attentive but never overbearing. Connor was super friendly and gave us some great tips on exploring the local area. The setting is beautiful and tranquil, perfect for switching off, with some easily accessible trails around the property to explore with the dogs. The natural playground was a great little escape. Food was another highlight, consistently high quality and a real part of the experience with a view of the sun setting over the ridge around the open fireplace. It’s a special place that strikes a balance between comfort, nature and thoughtful hospitality."
