PB hotel design editorial

Red brick and steel-framed windows rising above Hudson Square — the kind of warehouse-adjacent massing that SoHo has exported as an aesthetic to the rest of the world — set the physical terms for Arlo SoHo before you step inside. Opened in 2016 and designed by INC Architecture & Design, the 325-room property makes a deliberate argument about small-footprint urban hotels: that constraint, handled well, produces atmosphere rather than compromise. The facade's globe-lit canopy and dark steel entrance framing carry the energy of the neighborhood's cast-iron district heritage without cosplaying it. Inside, INC's approach to the guest rooms centers on warm-toned walnut millwork built around the bed like a cabin bunk — a wood-paneled alcove that frames the window view and folds desk, shelving, and articulated black task lamps into a single continuous surface. The effect draws from Japanese spatial thinking, making rooms that run as small as 150 square feet feel considered rather than squeezed. The street-level Harold's restaurant counters the rooms' introversion with an open, market-hall energy: geometric cement floor tiles in a blue-and-white diamond pattern, overscale factory pendant lights in matte navy, bentwood chairs, and a visible wood-fired oven anchoring the back wall. On the roof, terracotta umbrellas and Edison string lights frame a skyline view that takes in One World Trade to the south.

"This was our second time to Arlo Soho. We had a great stay and the staff was warm and friendly! Joel helped us with our bags and took the extra step of waiting with me and my mother in law until our car came to help with our bags. We had a lovely chat, too!"

"From the moment that I pulled up, I felt like I was living luxury. I’m not sure if this person worked there or I just happen to be walking through but someone opened the doors for me and directed me to the front desk and I was like oh wow thank you I think he worked in the bodega but as I got to the front desk, I was greeted by the wonderful Jenny accompanied by AL. Too very exceptional and important assets to this company who greeted me and made me feel welcome seen and heard all in the matter of moments I think sometimes checking into hotels or traveling in general can be an overwhelming experience, but these guys completely understood me, and they completely got me and they completely helped me and went above and beyond with your service. Well done guys I really appreciate you and thank you for such a wonderful day."

"I have stayed at multiple Hilton and Marriott properties around the world and I must say, my stay at Arlo SoHo has been one of the best experiences I have had. Shawn at the front desk is the most warm and welcoming concierge staff I have ever interacted with, especially considering that it was my first time at Arlo SoHo. I got into New York really early in the morning and he provided me an upgrade to my room and gave me an early checkin. But besides his amazing services, he had the most hospitable personalities. We share a common interest in photography and videography and he provided me great spots to take pictures and where to sight see based on what I wanted to film! His hospitality is truly second to none and he himself is why I will always stay at the Arlo SoHo in New York. The rooms are clean, room service comes around often and the beds are comfortable. Awesome lounge area on the first floor so I can do some work, great location- 7 minute walk from SoHo shopping area and 15 minute walk from Chinatown! Spring St station is 4 minutes away and Canal St station is right around the corner. Its not as busy as where I usually stay - Chelsea and I much prefer it this way! Awesome experience all around."

"Extremely relaxing and clean room in a great location. Perfect vibe for mid twenties to late 30s type of people. Service was extremely accommodating and the front desk staff, specifically Jen and Al were super warm and very down to earth. They were able to check me in way earlier than my actual check in time and were fun to talk to :)."
