PB hotel design editorial

At the southwestern edge of Lower Manhattan, where Battery Park City's landfill grid meets the Hudson River, a fourteen-storey red brick tower distinguished by a soaring central glass atrium has served as the address for Conrad New York Downtown since the hotel opened in 2012. The building, developed as part of the broader Battery Park City Authority plan, gives the property its most striking structural feature: that triangulated glass spine visible at the facade, glowing against the nighttime skyline with One World Trade Center rising behind it, situates the hotel firmly within the ambitious civic rebuilding of Lower Manhattan that followed September 2001. Inside, the 463 all-suite rooms follow a restrained contemporary brief — charcoal-stained millwork, slate-grey upholstered headboards in channel-tufted panels, cream lacquer nightstands, and cowhide-style rugs anchoring dark wood floors. The palette shifts subtly between room categories, with some configurations leaning into ebonized oak case goods against crisp white bedding, framed artwork providing the primary color notes. The restaurant, with its sculptural folded white ceiling planes angled above an open kitchen counter in polished concrete, carries more design ambition than the guest rooms suggest. The rooftop terrace, planted with low boxwood hedging and furnished with white resin chairs and generously cushioned banquettes in fuchsia and plum, offers unobstructed sight lines across the Hudson to the Jersey City skyline — a view that remains among the more quietly dramatic available from any hotel terrace in the city.

"It’s one of the best hotels with super comfort and great service. The hotel team from the staff to the management is very friendly and helpful."

"I am compelled to write another review on this hotel, and more importantly the staff who work tirelessly to provide the best experience for their guests. The hotel is located downtown in Tribeca, and offers some of the best experiences NY has to offer within walking distance. Suites (this is an all-suite hotel) are spacious, modern and excellently maintained. From the front desk staff, special thanks to Darwin along with Ken and the team, through to the restaurant staff and chefs, nothing is a problem. Again, very special thanks as always to Lukasz for his personal service throughout our stay, and to Tom who looked after us in the evenings. The hotel is close to a number of subway stations and WTC One is only a five minute walk away. The Staten Island Ferry and Brooklyn bridge are just 15mins away, along with shopping favorites Century 21 and TJ Max. The cross river ferry service to NJ is directly outside of the hotel, and almost everything is within a 15 to 20 minute subway ride. I have absolutely no reservation in recommending this hotel to anyone looking for a less ‘in your face’ experience of NYC, where you can ‘crank up the volume’ at your own discretion!! Thanks again to all, and see you later in the year."

"My time at the Conrad New York Downtown was absolutely excellent. While the property itself is stunning, the outstanding customer service is what really made my visit memorable. The staff is professional, gracious, and truly goes the extra mile for guests. I look forward to my next visit!"

"I thought the service was above and beyond my expectations- The staff was amazing. Our waitress Aura was so pleasant and our bust man Caesar was amazing. Being in New York can be very stressful but the staff made our stay one of calm and peace. Any questions we had they went above and beyond- from the Front Dest - Karina - to Guest Services- Michael Reno- Bellman, Gabe. And when arrived and our check out - our Doorman were very attentive- Solomon and Armando. I named all the staff I had contact with because they made me feel so special- I would recommend the Conrad Downtown New York to anyone who is going to NY. If you want high class service and personalize go to the Conrad."

"I've stayed at a lot of hotels, including Conrad hotels around the world, but none come close to the hospitality of the Conrad Downtown. Let's start with check-in. They honor every Hilton member or specialty cardd deal that is provided with your account, including early check-in when possible, all hotel dining credits and upgrades. They are gracious with it too, outlining everything for you on a sheet, telling you where they can be used (including in-room dining), and late check-outs as well. If a room is not ready, they will hold your bag for you until one is, and text you. The staff are super courteous, welcoming and well-informed, not just of the hotel, but the surrounding areas, from shopping to dining options inside Brookfield Place and Westfield to options for Carbone, Parm or Brooklyn Chop House. It is conveniently located near World Trade Center, so whether it is sightseeing you want, or shopping or family activities, everything is located. Battery Park City is great for walking as well, so if you just want to enjoy a nice stroll, it is perfect. They also will bring anything to your room that you need, from missing toothpaste to extra slippers or soap. The dining options within the hotel are great as well. We ordered room service, got breastfast and ordered the omelette, and avocado toast, along with two juices and they all were delicious. Be mindful, as they are a bit pricey, all came out to over $100, with tip included. We then dined at the Atrio downstairs and their food was great as well. From the crispy calamari, to the tuna tartar and burger and fries, all were really good. Now on to the rooms. They suite was super spacious, there's Mojave Ghost bath and body items in the bathroom which all smell amazing and it was super clean. Try and ask a higher floor and a room with a view of the water and you won't regret it. There is a couch in the suite if you have one and that is very comfy as well. The beds were all cleaned really well and extremely comfy. Andrea is the quintessential manager that I think they should send to every Conrad to train their staff because she went above and beyond for us. She is professional, friendly, warm and super attentive and if I could give her thousands of dollars for all she did for us, I would. I can't wait to go back and I'm already dreaming about the in-room dining."
