PB hotel design editorial

Kit Kemp's conviction that a hotel room should feel like the most vivid version of someone's home — not a neutralised approximation of one — finds its fullest American expression at Crosby Street Hotel, which opened in SoHo in 2009 as Firmdale's first property outside London. The building, designed by architect Stephen Leung working with the Firmdale team, rises eleven floors above a cobblestoned stretch of Crosby Street, its facade combining warm brick and oversized steel-framed windows that carry the industrial register of the surrounding cast-iron district while letting light pour deep into the 86 rooms. Outside the entrance, a bronze panther sculpture by Hamish Mackie signals that the curatorial instincts at work inside begin at street level. Those instincts are impossible to miss once you're through the door. The double-height lobby, visible in the images, deploys wide-plank oak flooring, Jaume Plensa's letter-form head sculpture, and ikat-upholstered sofas against large-format abstract canvases in a composition that sits closer to a collector's loft than a hotel reception. Upstairs, each room carries its own colour world — orange-ground citrus-print wallpaper paired with a towering arched headboard in one; red-and-cream floral toile with a scarlet upholstered bedhead trimmed in mustard in another. The bar continues the chromatic intensity: green leather stools embossed with red birds, striped banquettes in primary colours, and a chandelier of woven globe pendants in every hue suspended above the zinc counter.

"A lovely hotel in an amazing location with really comfy beds. The staff here are such genuinely nice people - A shout out to the guys on reception. The star of the show is most definitely 'Joseph' the doorman / welcome greeter of the hotel. A genuinely kind, friendly man who is always a pleasure to speak to and a huge asset for the hotel. First impressions always count and this gent sets the precedent for quality friendly service in a city which is not always so friendly! Will most definitely return, a great stay!"

"This is my first review on TripAdvisor, and I honestly couldn’t have picked a better place to start. Cleanliness (5/5) The hotel was exceptionally clean. Everything felt fresh, well-maintained, and cared for. Very nice furnitures and bed. Location (5/5) If you want to stay in SoHo, this is simply the best possible location. You’re surrounded by fantastic breakfast spots, lunch options, and great restaurants for dinner - and there’s something for every budget. You truly can’t ask for better positioning. Service (5/5) The service level was the best I have ever experienced (and I’ve stayed at my fair share of 5* properties). From the doormen recognizing you by name, to reception, to the concierge - every single touchpoint felt personal and thoughtful. The attention to detail for both me and my family was exceptional. I’ve stayed in many 5-star properties - most recently the Ritz-Carlton NoMad and The Fifth Avenue Hotel here in New York - and the service here (Crosby Street) was on another level. Value for Money (5/5) It’s an expensive place to stay - no doubt about it. But you absolutely get what you pay for in terms of location, service, and overall experience. Sleep Quality (5/5) The bedding was incredibly comfortable. Coming directly from another 5-star property, the difference was noticeable. I slept with one of our children and my wife slept with the other, and we were all impressed by both the comfort of the beds and the quietness of the rooms. We slept extremely well. Rooms (5/5) If there’s one area where there’s minor room for improvement, it would be some of the interior details. You can see that certain elements, like the doors and some amenities, are a bit dated. The same goes for some of the furniture (e.g., the table in the room). I would consider updating some of the smaller details such as soaps, shampoo, power outlets, and especially the hairdryer (which felt quite old and outdated). When I mention the doors, it’s simply that from the inside they reflect that they are likely 10+ years old. They were absolutely not a problem for us - but if anything were to be refreshed, this would be the place to start."

"Incredibly well-run hotel. We were celebrating our daughter’s 16th bday and booked two adjoining rooms on a top floor. The rooms (and the entire hotel) were designed beautifully. The staff was something else.. they were always there, but not there, if you can understand that. Always helpful, super friendly, we never felt like we were in a snobby hotel. Housekeeping was something else, we were always amazed at how impeccable our rooms looked when we got back every night. Our floor had many security cameras, which made us feel safe. The hotel is also located in a great area of Soho -walking distance from great restaurants, shops, and the subway. The Crosby has become our go-to place to stay when visiting NYC."

"We went to the Crosby Street Hotel for Sunday brunch. We have been there before and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. This time did not disappoint. Our server was Roberto and he provided us with top notch service and a delicious brunch. We met the concierge, Thomas, after brunch and he provided us with lots of options of things to do and places to explore while we were in the area. We are looking forward to our next time in NYC and the Crosby Street Hotel"

"I made a late brunch reservation for Sunday June 22 for a party of four. The team went out of their way to get us a reservation. We had a wonderful brunch. My friends said the Eggs Benedict Royale were the best they ever had! Special thanks to manager Adrien, our server Roberto, Bruce behind the bar and Tom at the Concierge desk who gave us wonderful recommendations for Chinatown and Little Italy so we could give our friends a great experience."
