PB hotel design editorial

At the southwestern corner of Columbus Circle, where Broadway and Eighth Avenue converge beneath Gaetano Russo's 1892 statue of Christopher Columbus, the twin glass towers of the Time Warner Center rise 750 feet above Midtown Manhattan — and it is within the taller of these two shafts, designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 2003, that Mandarin Oriental New York claims floors 35 through 54. The positioning is the whole argument: 251 rooms and suites set at a height where Central Park spreads out below like a relief map, the Hudson visible beyond it on clear days, the Midtown skyline fanning east in both directions. Hirsch Bedner Associates handled the interiors, working in a register that favors dark-stained wood, travertine, and bronze-toned metalwork over anything that might read as exuberant. Guest rooms shown here carry that language through — quilted leather headboards framed within mirrored architectural surrounds, patterned wool carpets in amber and charcoal, the open bathroom arrangement that has become the brand's signature spatial move. The bar at the top of the building, visible in one image, has been updated with sinuous ceiling light installations and curved lounge seating in cream leather and graphite, Central Park glowing below through floor-to-ceiling glass. The lap pool, tiled in mosaic and lined with cobalt sun loungers, runs along a window wall with the midtown skyline as its backdrop — an amenity that only altitude makes possible.

"Starting with the positives, the views from an elevated position overlooking Central Park were incredible. We were the only guests having afternoon tea in a nearly empty dining room so the atmosphere wasn’t great, although arguably this isn’t necessarily MO’s fault. Not had an A/T in NY previously so can only compare to places like London and Dubai. In that regard the experience overall was a little underwhelming and not in the same league. Didn’t feel a particularly special experience, unlike the best ATs, apart from the view and perhaps our expectations were a little high based on the very high price tag. The food itself was good overall and no real complaints other than the portions weren’t particularly generous. The views weren’t enough to rescue the experience sadly and in hindsight probably wish we’d tried elsewhere"

"The best therapist in whole New York is namely TSERINC as she gave a beautiful therapeutic journey with every second of happiness to the skin with glowing results on completion of her treatment as a ceremony that took us to the hills of Himalayas, without traveling away from New York City ."

"If there would be an option to give a negative star I would. The lobby and bar/ restaurant is beautiful but for such a high price tag the staff are oblivious and inattentive. Drinks are watered down, despite an army of staff it was a monumental effort to get their attention. Save your monies and spend someplace else. I would NEVER go back."

"We recently stayed at the Mandarin Oriental New York using free nights, and I just wanted to say how wonderful our experience was. The entire team made our stay feel truly special and comfortable. We were celebrating a milestone birthday, and I had only asked for a simple card from the hotel to acknowledge the occasion. We were therefore genuinely surprised and touched by the very generous gesture of a bottle of champagne, a cake, and a beautifully written birthday card for my friend. I was also pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful touches throughout our stay, such as the daily supply of bottled water in the room. In addition, the staff in the lounge, as well as the reception team and waiters, were all incredibly kind and friendly. They made every breakfast, dinner, and even a simple cocktail an absolute pleasure. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you for making this trip so memorable."
