PB hotel design editorial

Burnham's vision of a skyscraper as pure civic gesture found an unlikely descendant in the 90-storey glass tower that Skidmore, Owings & Merrill completed on West 57th Street in 2014 — a building whose residential upper floors sit above the 210 rooms of Park Hyatt New York, the brand's first American flagship. The tower's dark-tinted curtain wall, visible in the entrance image as a taut grid of near-black glass and polished metal, carries a precision that few Midtown hotels attempt. Yabu Pushelberg handled the interiors, and their signature discipline — materials chosen for depth rather than drama — runs through every space: the lobby floor laid in richly veined brown-grey marble, walls clad in horizontal-grain travertine, mosaic-tiled pillars casting warm light across a lounge furnished with low velvet club chairs and tufted settees. Guest rooms continue this restrained material logic, their limestone floors and cognac leather armchairs framing floor-to-ceiling glazing that pulls Central Park into the room as the primary decorative gesture. Suites are divided by etched glass partitions with bronze detailing, the geometric patterning echoing the custom area rugs below. Most arresting is the 25th-floor indoor pool, its double-height volume wrapped in bookmatched grey-veined stone, suspended cube lanterns dropping from the ceiling in a cascading grid — a room that manages genuine calm against a backdrop of Midtown rooftops pressing close on every side.

"Hotel was in good location, close central park and tourist areas. Shower water pressure is very good, but draining the tub makes a loud vibrating noise. Staff were friendly and actively offering help. Will visit agin."

"Absolutely wonderful Hotel. The rooms are large, comfortable and very well laid out. The bathroom was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast and cocktails in the Living Room as well. The location could not be better. It is an easy walk to Central Park, Broadway and the museums. The front door staff was so warm and welcoming and they made sure we had freshwater every time we came and went from the hotel! We truly felt spoiled. We will stay here again!"

"We recently stayed at the Park Hyatt New York for our anniversary and overall I’d give it 4/5 stars. The hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby is elegant, the rooms are spacious, and the staff were consistently friendly and professional. They also surprised us with chocolate-covered strawberries and a handwritten anniversary note, which was a thoughtful touch and genuinely appreciated. That said, the experience fell short in a few areas considering the price point and reputation of the property. We redeemed 45,000 Hyatt points per night and also paid an additional $300 per night for a suite upgrade that was heavily presented as having Central Park views. In reality, it was only a very small partial view with mostly trees visible. Looking back, I regret spending the extra $900 on the upgrade. There were also several maintenance/detail issues in the room that stood out more than they should at a luxury hotel: -Cabinet door near the coffee/fridge area would not close properly and had visible scrape damage -Iron had a broken spray button and melted residue on it -Bidet/toilet system emitted a sewer odor during use -Bathtub had visible cracking/fracturing in the finish Even the reception area had some visibly worn and dirty details behind the front desk that created a poor first impression upon arrival. None of these issues ruined the trip, and we still enjoyed our anniversary stay overall. But for a Park Hyatt in New York City, I expected a more polished and meticulously maintained experience, especially after paying extra for an upgraded room that did not match the expectations set during check-in."

"Park Hyatt New York managed to give me something very rare in New York, a genuine sense of calm and personal rhythm in the middle of one of the world’s most energetic cities. What I appreciate most about this hotel is its understated excellence. Nothing feels loud or overly performative. The luxury is quiet, minimalist and deeply comfortable, which personally suits me far more than unnecessary extravagance. The location is exceptional, especially if you enjoy balancing the intensity of the city with moments of wellbeing and peace. My mornings quickly developed into a ritual: an early run through Central Park, followed by time in the gym and then breakfast afterwards. Honestly one of the highlights of the entire stay. Few hotels manage to create that feeling of flow and ease so naturally. The rooms are extremely comfortable, elegant and calming, while the overall position of the hotel makes New York feel surprisingly accessible, whether for gastronomy, shopping or simply exploring the city on foot. Park Hyatt New York may not be the loudest luxury hotel in Manhattan, but that is precisely its charm. It offers sophistication with restraint, comfort without excess and a rare sense of serenity that stayed with me long after check-out."
