PB hotel design editorial

At 580 feet and 38 stories, the slender concrete tower Rafael Viñoly Architects raised at 1185 Broadway is one of the more self-assured pieces of new construction to arrive in Midtown Manhattan in years — and The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad, which opened within it in 2022, earns the address. The building's massing is distinctive from the skyline: an exposed concrete frame visually lifts the tower away from its five-story L-shaped podium, giving the whole composition a quiet structural honesty rarely associated with luxury hospitality. The hotel draws its design narrative from the 28th Street Flower District immediately to the south, a conceit that could easily tip into pastiche but is handled with enough restraint across the 250 guest rooms to feel like atmosphere rather than theme. The interiors were divided among four studios — Rockwell Group, Lázaro Rosa-Violán, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, and SUSURRUS International — and the divisions are legible in the images. Guest rooms by Rockwell carry warm limed oak paneling, nero marquina marble bases, and looping brass chandelier forms against floor-to-ceiling city views. The lobby lounge shifts register entirely: deep lacquered walls, jewel-toned velvets in celadon and teal, and organic branching light fixtures that feel closer to a private drawing room than a hotel common area. Most dramatically, the rooftop bar — almost certainly Brudnizki's hand — wraps blush-pink curved banquettes beneath teal ceilings hung with saucer-shaped brass pendants, the Hudson glittering through wraparound glass behind it all.

"Lived up to the hype. Phenomenal decor and design. Room was so spacious for NYC and had the most unreal view of lower manhattan right from our bed. Dined at both restaurants and they exceeded expectations. Definitely returning."

"Overall this was a very good-excellent (but not perfect) experience. ⭐️Check-in: Hostess was knowledgeable, polite, and efficient. room was not quite ready, she welcomed me to lounge, found me a plug for my laptop, and came right over when room became available. I had called the head to request a mini fridge and it was already in the room (tho see below for issues) ⭐️Room: Large (for NYC) and well-equipped with nice linens, good tech controls, steam machine in shower, nicely done lighting, stylish ⭐️Gym: VERY well equipped for hotel gym, 2 ellipticals, bike, 4 treadmills, 24/7, well maintained ⭐️Dining: Zaytinya is amazing - I had doubts as it is a transplant from DC not an original restaurant, but it is just as good as the one in DC! Since I was traveling solo and like to eat at the bar when doing so I ate there all three nights and each was fantastic. Great bartender and servers. ⭐️Staff: Generally polite and knew my name on day 1 (by sight) ❌Mini fridge fail: it turned out to be a freezer instead (and no it was not just set too cold). It was set on 3 of 5 coolness and I put an opened bottle of champagne in there to save rest for next day and it completely froze SOLID! As did a slice of cake, but that was easy to thaw. Champagne not so much. Wasted lots of money on this nice bottle. However, I did mention on checkout and was offered $50 credit… Just about half the cost of bottle so I guess it was reasonable. ❌Turndown: happened between five and 5:30 PM the first two days. The third day I got back at 7PM and it had not yet happened. I called to inquire whether it is their general policy not to offer turn down on the last night of a day, (which I would've thought was reasonable if they said it was) but the lady I talked to had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and simply asked if I was calling to ask turn down and I just said no I wanted to know what their policy was not that I was asking for it as I was in for the night and did not want to be disturbed further. Also for general room service they did not replace used glassware so I did have to ask for that."

"Second visit to this lovely hotel that feels boutique. Very comfy lounge adjacent to the lobby. Excellent food options -- I especially loved breakfast at Zaytinya which had unique, well prepared and served dishes. Attentive staff with many eyes in the lobby which I appreciated. Perfectly appointed rooms with a spacious bathroom and incredible city views. Looking forward to a future stay."

"Came here for drinks with friends at the rooftop - its free to go in even if you are not staying - the drinks are not cheap but then the drinks is more or less the price to see the view - as I paid for a beer for $16 - bit steep - overall a nice place"
