PB hotel design editorial

At 11 stories, the terracotta-clad Beaux-Arts tower at 11 Wall Street has held a particular weight in American financial history — this was the home of the New York Stock Exchange's original annex building, completed in 1901, and its ornate cornice work and rusticated limestone base carry the authority of an era when banking institutions built for permanence. The Wall Street Hotel, which opened in 2021 after an extensive conversion, inhabits that gravitas while pulling firmly against it, with interiors by the New York firm Stonehill Taylor translating the building's mercantile heritage into something closer to a cultivated private residence than a monument to capital. The rooms work a palette of powder blue, warm cream, and soft grey across tufted upholstered headboards, hand-tufted patterned carpets, and canopy bed frames draped in sheer linen — the atmosphere somewhere between a well-appointed Manhattan apartment and a European grand hotel, grounded by brass swing-arm reading lamps and dark lacquered nightstands. The bar and lounge lean into the building's downtown mythology more directly, with large-scale hand-painted murals depicting the historic Manhattan skyline stretched between the original fluted columns, the seating arranged in an eclectic mix of leopard-print club chairs, tufted sofas, and polished walnut side tables. The restaurant, by contrast, turns intimate — hunter-green ceilings, deep burgundy banquettes, and a dramatic botanical-print wall covering that shifts the register entirely toward the quietly theatrical.

"We spent a week at this hotel while we were moving our daughter into her new place in FIDI. We got a decent price with their online stay three nights, get one free. Location was great…minutes walk to the NYSE, Bowling Green, Seaport Village and Pier 17, Stone Street. There are great restaurants and cafes all around. Highly recommend Black Fox for great coffee and La Marchande, the hotel’s signature restaurant. And Tacombi for great Mexican food. Front desk staff and the doormen were all so professional and friendly. Everyone went out of their way to help us with any questions we had. The rooms were great…very clean and very large. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was big, as well. This is clearly the best shower I’ve ever seen. The water pressure was massive. I absolutely love that, coming from California, where you can barely get a trickle in a hotel room. We had a Wall Street view…not too bad, nothing special, but a nice view down Pearl Street. The bar downstairs was nice. It was very large with a lot of seating both at the bar and the lounge. A few nights a week, they had a DJ that was playing some freestyle music. And one night they had a great jazz band. The nice is very nice. Weekends were crowded with a young crowd, weekdays were less crowded with an older business crowd. The only drawback was that the rooftop was closed to the general public, and it was only available for private parties. But if you like rooftops (we are huge fans), go to a Overstory on Pine Street and Manhatta at Fosum Plaza. You won’t be disappointed! And like I said, the hotel restaurant, La Marchande was fantastic. The French onion dumpling soup is fantastic. And the chicken is amazing. Ask for Kirn, our server on two nights. He is an amazing waiter and knows the menu like the back of his hand! We will be back for sure!!"

"Just perfect- the GM Keylen took such great care of me that I struggled to check out. Every need was met with a genuine professional attitude and world class hospitality. So kind and generous I am legitimately saddened to leave and go back to the real world. The hotel is clean, well furnished, located and has a wonderful gym. I stay frequently and would say I feel at home there- in large part due to the staff like Akeem and Kevens and the brilliant Keylen. Cannot wait to come back."

"Excellent hotel! Wouldn’t mind staying here again! Booked 4 nights through Virtuoso so breakfast & $100 credit was included. Got a room upgrade which was nice. Very spacious room. Comfy bed! Big bathroom with great water pressure. All the necessary amenities including water were available in the room. La Marchande breakfasts were delicious with friendly and efficient service. Only negative was loud clanging sounds off the street when trying to sleep."

"Not a true 5star hotel. Some staff need professional training . I had previously informed hotel that the coffee served at breakfast was not of a high standard quality. Having said that I started bringing my own coffee, something I noticed other guests doing. Unfortunately one staff member (Krysta) reaction was impolite and unprofessional unnecessarily! A luxury hotel should be able to handle guest’s preferences and feedback effectively. I need to say that all other staff members were very polite and professional. This interaction left a negative feeling to me and my family having said that we were paying quite an amount of money for a one week stay….."
