PB hotel design editorial

At 11 stories, the terracotta-clad Beaux-Arts tower at 11 Wall Street has held a particular weight in American financial history — this was the home of the New York Stock Exchange's original annex building, completed in 1901, and its ornate cornice work and rusticated limestone base carry the authority of an era when banking institutions built for permanence. The Wall Street Hotel, which opened in 2021 after an extensive conversion, inhabits that gravitas while pulling firmly against it, with interiors by the New York firm Stonehill Taylor translating the building's mercantile heritage into something closer to a cultivated private residence than a monument to capital. The rooms work a palette of powder blue, warm cream, and soft grey across tufted upholstered headboards, hand-tufted patterned carpets, and canopy bed frames draped in sheer linen — the atmosphere somewhere between a well-appointed Manhattan apartment and a European grand hotel, grounded by brass swing-arm reading lamps and dark lacquered nightstands. The bar and lounge lean into the building's downtown mythology more directly, with large-scale hand-painted murals depicting the historic Manhattan skyline stretched between the original fluted columns, the seating arranged in an eclectic mix of leopard-print club chairs, tufted sofas, and polished walnut side tables. The restaurant, by contrast, turns intimate — hunter-green ceilings, deep burgundy banquettes, and a dramatic botanical-print wall covering that shifts the register entirely toward the quietly theatrical.

"I surprised my daughter with a trip to NYC for her 13th birthday and I have to say this hotel was probably the highlight of the trip. The staff was all so nice, the room beautiful, the food was delicious - truly a dream of a hotel. I would stay here again with the rest of my family in a heartbeat."

"This is a lovely, well staffed quality hotel. I was impressed by the room. Beautifully appointed and designed. Small by some standards but for a NYC hotel perfect. Staff is extremely well trained and very helpful. Nothing to complain about."

"This was a staycation for me, and it turned out to be an exceptional experience. The check‑in with Ikhlaas was probably the best I’ve ever had—truly rare in New York. He clearly explained all the amenities, was incredibly friendly, and made everything feel effortless. It was my first time staying at the hotel, and I was genuinely impressed by how welcoming and attentive he was. The room itself was absolutely lovely and spacious. The little note from Prince, was a sweet touch. The shower was unbelievable (I'm not even exaggerating) —one of the best I’ve ever used. In‑room dining and housekeeping were also impressively quick and efficient, which made the entire stay even better. Would 100000% stay here again!"

"The Wall Street Hotel is truly the top hotel in Financial District of Manhattan. From the moment we arrived, the staff impressed us with how courteous and personable they were. The Front Office went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and if we needed anything to make our stay more comfortable. We received an incredible amenity delivered to room with wine/charcuterie as well as cookies shaped as the Wall Street Hotel. It truly made our stay beyond exceptional and was wowed. We celebrated my aunts 88th birthday and my pre wedding dinner at the hotel's main restaurant La Marchande. The staff went above and beyond to make both occasions feel special and the entire experience with my family there was outstanding. The lobby lounge was such a vibe. We enjoyed signature cocktails and live music. They also had an extensive food menu as well, but the truffle fries & shrimp cocktail were divine. The high ceilings and interior design throughout were so well thought-out and had some of the best people watching. I also loved the thoughtful homage throughout the hotel to the owners pearl business. It showed up from places such as the keycards, to the beautiful pearl dessert at the restaurant. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern and beautifully appointed and ode to the neighborhoods historic charm. The Le Labo soaps were an added luxurious touch. The hotel is truly a pearl on the most iconic street in America. We can't wait to return and I highly recommend this beautiful property."

"This was my first time staying at this hotel and the experience was exceptional in all regards! Starting with the basics, my room was immaculate and incredibly quiet. Yes, this is New York and hearing some horn-honking from the street is unavoidable, but there was no noise detectable from neighbors above and below or on either side of my room and none came through from the hall, either. Some other high points include a heated bathroom floor (luxurious during the recent cold weather), a fantastic fitness facility/gym, which had more free weights and kettlebells than the vast majority of much larger hotels, and incredibly attentive staff. You truly feel welcomed every time you leave and enter the building. I also had interactions with Kat, the chief concierge, and she went above and beyond my expectations in addressing a couple of simple requests. Just to make sure you don't think this is a bot review, there are some minor critiques I have as well. My room had a settee and small adjacent table, but no desk. It made trying to write letters/cards (but, who does that anymore besides me??) a bit more difficult than optimal. And, the shower controls were a bit counterintuitive on the first use. Those are pretty minor quibbles about a three night stay that was overall extraordinary in a hotel that exudes understated class and attention to detail! I'll be back again when I next travel to NYC!!"
