PB hotel design editorial

Planted at the edge of Williamsburg's low-rise grid like something dropped from a different city entirely, the tower designed by Aufgang Architects for The William Vale announces itself through its structural exoskeleton — massive V-shaped concrete columns flaring outward at the base, lifting the 23-story tower above a landscaped podium and lending the building a posture somewhere between brutalist confidence and contemporary spectacle. Opened in 2016 with 183 rooms, it was among the first hotels to take seriously the idea that Brooklyn's waterfront deserved architecture scaled to its Manhattan sightlines rather than its industrial past. Every room comes with a private balcony, which is the organizing logic behind the facade's rhythmic horizontal banding visible in the images — those deep concrete floor plates stepping back from the glass line to carve outdoor space into each guestroom. The interiors, handled by NDA (Nobutaka Ashihara Design Associates), keep a clean white and light-wood palette anchored by geometric-patterned rugs in charcoal and cream, with bursts of color from commissioned artwork hung above headboards. The rooftop bar Westlight makes the fullest argument for the tower's placement: a sweeping midtown panorama framed through full-height glazing, the room furnished in amber velvet banquettes, teal upholstered chairs, and bronze ceiling ribs from which globe pendants hang in loose clusters. The pool deck one floor below adds a resort register that still feels improbable in Williamsburg, though the Manhattan skyline glittering across the East River makes it make sense.

"We visited the William Vale in May 2026 for our daughter's graduation. We were originally put in a room right next to the elevator and we didn't think we could sleep because of the noise. Christian, the house keeping manager, worked with us to move to a different, much quieter room, and it made our stay so much nicer. He really went above and beyond because it was late in the day. Can't wait for our next stay!"

"We stayed two nights at The William Vale and had a wonderful experience overall. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was that they accommodate cats, and they were absolutely amazing with our pets. Finding a luxury hotel that genuinely welcomes cats can be difficult, so this was a huge plus for us and made the stay even more enjoyable. First, the customer service was fantastic. Everyone was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We stayed in Suite 1620, which features a wraparound balcony with breathtaking views stretching across Manhattan all the way to the Brooklyn Bridge. The views alone make this room worth considering. The bathroom was another highlight. The large soaking tub and shower are positioned next to a window overlooking the city, creating a unique and relaxing experience, especially at night. The room itself showed some signs of wear and tear, which suggests it gets a lot of use, but it was still comfortable and enjoyable. A few tips for future guests: * Request a fan if you prefer extra airflow while sleeping. * Have the minibar fridge emptied if you plan to store your own drinks and want to avoid any accidental charges. * Be aware that the bell staff must assist with luggage carts. My only real criticism was the elevator situation. During our stay, only one guest elevator was available, while the others primarily served the rooftop bar. This resulted in long waits and crowded elevator rides, which became frustrating at times. That said, the concierge team was exceptional. They handled a UPS delivery for us flawlessly and went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. Despite the elevator issues, the incredible views, outstanding service, and truly pet-friendly atmosphere made for a memorable stay. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone traveling with cats."

"Hotel is beautiful and clean. Service is either excellent or very average. Got looked down on at the rooftop restaurant. Was asked to prove I have a credit card, and when I told them I was a guest they acted all apologetic. I had excellent service from the waiter at Leuga during lunch on May 4th. Incredibly kind, friendly and helpful. I’m sorry I didn’t take his name :( I was in a suite with wraparound balcony. The views were very beautiful but the room was a bit run down. Bathroom door handle was broken. The biggest red flag to me is that they took a 1280$ CAD deposit on check in, then confirmed it was going to get released / refunded… Which it still hasn’t. They sent me a bill where I see it in the credit line, but there is no credit transaction. They keep arguing it’s on the bank side. But bear with me, they processed a 25$ refund a couple of days later and that showed within 2 days. It’s now been 15 days and I’ve yet to see my 1280$ charge reflected as a credit. I wrote to them and they maintain it will show up. Well, my credit card says I’m allowed to do a charge back in a couple of days so I guess if they wanna do it the hard way, I will proceed with that. Would be so much more simple to not keep the guests deposit hold for so long…"

"Our experience at The William Vale could not have been any better. We were offered an early check in as our room was available and they were so helpful and accommodating when the weather wreaked havoc with our plans. Our room was superb with a great bed and nicely appointed bathroom. We used the workout room daily and enjoyed a session in the sauna and hot tub. The coat concierge was invaluable! We will definitely be back."
