PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of 13th Street in Greenwich Village, a 1920s brick-clad building with an elaborately ornamented entry arch — fanlight window, terra cotta relief panels, stepped pilasters — sets a tone that the Walker Hotel Greenwich Village carries deep into its interior. The lobby delivers on that architectural promise: backlit honey onyx stairs rise toward a leaded transom door, their iron balustrades curving in an Art Nouveau gesture that feels entirely native to the building rather than installed for effect. Behind the reception desk, original exposed brickwork anchors the room while translucent shoji-like light panels add an unexpectedly Eastern counterpoint, a collision of references that somehow coheres in the warm, amber-toned light. The 116 guestrooms sustain the Art Deco commitment with genuine conviction — macassar ebony headboards framed by fan-patterned wallcoverings in either crimson or sapphire, chrome-based table lamps, and tufted white leather benches at the foot of each bed. Higher floors reward guests with views across lower Manhattan toward One World Trade, the steel-grid windows functioning almost as period frames around a contemporary skyline. The restaurant works a different register entirely: pressed tin ceilings, walnut panelling, teal leather banquettes, a working fireplace, and trailing ivy glimpsed through a glazed ceiling void give the room the atmosphere of a well-worn Flatiron-era dining club that has aged into something comfortable and genuinely inviting.

"The location is in a beautiful area in Greenwich Village. The staff was fantastic. Loved the bagel place right next door. So many things in walking distance. So happy we found this charming hotel!"

"I loved the ambiance of the hotel & lobby (so swanky, live jazz, onsite restaurant), but sadly it disappointed otherwise. My room apparently had fresh carpet, but the fumes were so strong and never subsided (I also wasn’t warned at check-in that men were still working in the room). The bed / pillows were stinky and very flat, so hard to sleep comfortably in, and the lighting was sooo so dark in the room. It was hard to get ready and was not an environment I wanted to work or hang out in outside of sleeping - obviously the city is the main attraction, but very little natural lighting. Hallways are also loud with rooms close together and slamming doors. Bummed to have not enjoyed."

"H-O-T!! Do not visit in the spring. I was told that the building runs on centralized Heat or AC throughout the year, and it happened to be Heat at the time of my March stay. That said, my room was 89° and there was nothing I could do to adjust the temperature. When I told the front desk about the issue, they offered a fan and for me to open a window, but the window did not have screens so it allowed bugs in all night. I wasn’t told about this issue until after I’d already checked it. Had I known immediately, I likely would have stayed elsewhere with no hard feelings. It was disappointing to feel trapped in an uncomfortable situation due to the lack of transparency upfront."

"Love The Walker. Beautiful lobby/lounge area, perfect for reading a book, cocktails, hanging out with friends! Free water bottles are such a great amenity! Location is awesome, very walkable to many of the best spots in the Village. Subway is also 1 block away. Murray's Bagels is about a 3 min walk!! Staff is friendly and helpful!"
