PB hotel design editorial

Where the bluffs at the far end of Montauk give way to open Atlantic, a two-storey motel-format building clad in warm red-toned timber establishes the architectural register for Marram Montauk — unpretentious, coastal, and more considered than its relaxed exterior lets on. The property was reimagined under the creative direction of the Apicella + Bunton studio, with interiors that treat the site's surfer-town frankness as a design asset rather than something to smooth over. Balconies with slatted timber balustrades run the length of the facade, oriented directly toward the ocean, dune grasses and coastal plantings softening the building's edge where sand meets structure. Inside, the rooms carry a bleached, sun-warmed palette — limewashed plaster walls, exposed timber ceiling beams, and linen in cream and oat. Woven rattan pendant lights and solid wood drum side tables anchor the furniture arrangement, while small-format original artworks lean against headboard ledges in a gesture that feels domestic rather than curated. The pool deck is planked in weathered timber, terracotta-orange umbrellas marking it from the sand below, where Adirondack chairs and low sofas arranged around fire bowls extend the social territory toward the water's edge. A shade sail over the outdoor bar completes an outdoor sequence that moves from pool to dune to beach with the easy, unpretentious continuity that this corner of the Hamptons, at its best, has always promised.

"Marram is the most beautiful hotel I’ve stayed in my favorite place in the world. I loved every minute from the moment I stepped into it. I love the architecture, the landscape, the design of the rooms, building, and common area. It’s beautiful all around. The rooms make you feel safe and secure in high wind days. Having no tv makes you enjoy the present moments with yourself or your family. It’s meditative and reflective. The sunrises and sunsets by the ocean are gorgeous. You can get mesmerized looking into the ocean. The common area is just beautiful. It’s a great place work or relax. I am obsessed with the pemf mats. I loved every biking into town! The kids loved the snores and the fire pit. I can’t say enough about it. There isn’t one bad thing. Loved it so much and can’t wait to go back!"

"We had an oceanfront room, that the view was fabulous and relaxing. The ocean waves we could hear and the view were able to be seen from our bed. Great balcony views too! Very comfortable bedding and clean. The service was excellent. I needed a bed made for the 3 person in our room and before I got back from the front desk the woman was there already making up the bed. Wow! The restaurant was not open when we were there so I can not comment on that. Overall a great experience and a very friendly staff."

"Beautiful location. Was only there from late night to checkout - did not see much. I prefer carpeting and a TV (which there is none) but bed was comfy and the shower was HOT and great."

"This is a beautiful space right on the ocean. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs during our stay. They obviously have excellent customer service training and great attitudes toward their work. They take pride in the property. The ocean views were incredible and very walkable to city of Montauk with great food options abounding. Heated pool was amazing. Great point of exploration for other areas on Long Island."
