PB hotel design editorial

Carl Fisher built his private social club on Star Island in 1928, the same restless developer who had dredged Miami Beach from mangrove swamp and dreamed of doing the same to Montauk. Nearly a century later, the Montauk Yacht Club returned to life on Memorial Day Weekend 2023 following a multi-million dollar renovation by Safe Harbor Marinas, its 35 acres on Lake Montauk restored to something closer to Fisher's original vision of coastal leisure at scale — 107 rooms, three pools, and the Hamptons' largest marina with more than 200 wet slips stretching into the harbor. The white lighthouse tower that anchors the compound remains the property's most recognizable landmark, visible from the aerial view as a kind of compass point between the pool terrace and the docks packed with superyachts. Newport-based KPR Interiors shaped the renovation around what they called quiet, elevated leisure, and the rooms deliver exactly that register — whitewashed shiplap walls paired with charcoal upholstered headboards and bleached oak frames in some configurations, linen curtains and Adirondack chairs on private decks in the waterfront cottages dating to the original 1928 construction. The outdoor terrace dining space leans into teak furniture with rope-woven backs and rattan lounge pieces arranged beneath a louvered pergola, the marina's forest of masts providing the only backdrop needed. Nothing here strains for effect; the setting has always done the heavy lifting.

"Amazing place, Amazing food and Amazing sceneries"

"From the moment we arrived at Montauk Yacht Club, the atmosphere enveloped us in a quiet, refined calm that set the tone for the entire stay. We spent four wonderful nights, Wednesday through Sunday, and every day reinforced why this property stands in a class of its own along the East End. The accommodations were quite eloquent. The rooms were spacious, beautifully appointed, and carried that signature coastal elegance that blends barefoot ease with genuine luxury. Waking up each morning to the serene waterfront views of Lake Montauk felt deeply relaxing. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional and made every interaction feel personal and genuine. From the front desk, room service, to dining, the team ensured every comfort was met. The grounds themselves are quite exquisite with 16 acres of lush waterfront expanse harboring a private beach, indoor and outdoor pools, and a marina that frames the property in an almost cinematic way. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, breathe, and simply be present. Montauk Yacht Club is a destination for those seeking an upscale, peaceful, and deeply enjoyable coastal retreat."

"Gorgeous property. Even though we were there at season opening, all of the staff were perky, attentive and friendly, and quick to address our needs. We started in partial view, which had a very nice view overlooking the fire pit and lighthouse, but we requested a move to avoid the cute but noisy kids next door. The full on water view was awesome. Delicious food and excellent bar service."
