PB hotel design editorial

Amagansett sits at the quieter, less trafficked end of the South Fork — east of East Hampton's social machinery, closer to the fishing hamlet character that the Hamptons traded away decades ago. It is an apt address for The Roundtree, a property that makes its case through restraint rather than spectacle, gathering a cluster of cedar-shingled cottages around a generous shared lawn in a configuration that feels closer to a private compound than a hotel. The white picket fence and covered porch of the main house, visible in the images, carry the vernacular of old Long Island summer architecture without tipping into nostalgia. Inside, the rooms navigate two distinct registers. Some lean into the shingled cottage shell — vaulted ceilings, wide-plank oak floors, upholstered linen headboards, oversized walnut pendant lights — while others adopt a crisper, more edited sensibility: black steel console tables, Hans Wegner Wishbone chairs in ebonized finish, stone vessel sinks, and dark concrete floors that push against the white-painted walls. The grounds hold the property together — a wide lawn furnished with white sunloungers and cantilever umbrellas, a fire pit ringed with woven outdoor chairs, mature oaks and hedgerows screening the perimeter. The effect is a studied informality, the kind that takes considerable effort to achieve and considerable discipline to maintain.

"I visited at the end of September 2024. There is nothing really I experienced that would make me deduct the points from 5 stars so I am giving 5. Service, location, amenities and onsite dining were excellent. I wanted to relax after my responsibilities were taken care of and this place offered exactly what I was looking for. Actually, surprisingly so. I travel the world and I expected this place to be less fulfilling given my experiences but I was pleasantly surprised. Great job!"

"My daughter and I had the most wonderful stay at this hotel in June. The gardens are truly beautiful and so relaxing. Lots of very comfortable places to sit, we loved the fire pit and just the general peace and quiet. The beach was very windy but the garden seemed to be so protected which was delightful. Breakfast in the garden was a real treat and the food was excellent. The hotel location is right in the centre an we were very grateful for this as plenty of choice for places to eat. The staff are all delightful, they really can not do enough for you and it sounds corny but it is absolutely true. They all smiles and happy which makes such a difference. I would not hesitate to recommend to anybody."

"The Roundtree is truly something special. The level of service and attention to detail rivals the finest luxury hotels in Asia. The staff was amazing and did everything possible to make sure your stay was exceptional. They thought of every detail, from the stocked fridge with snacks and drinks to the Frette slippers, bathrobes and Grown Alchemist toiletries....we felt very pampered. Loved the firepits and smores as well as all the comfortable options for outdoor seating. Breakfast and evening snacks were exceptional which makes it too easy to overindulge. Location in town is perfect for walking around, they offer bicycles to get to the beach and also a van service as well. We look forward to visiting again over the summer."

"charming small hotel right in the heart of Amagansett. Easy walk to town which is quite small but charming. The staff could not have been nicer, Javier , Nellie , and Elena.. Breakfast which was preordered the night before had a nice assortment of bread, croissants, scone and muffin , yougurt and granola, fresh fruit and berries and a choice of juice , coffee , tea, which was quite nice, was served in room or outdoors at one of the tables set up on the grass.. The room was comfortable, bed great with nice linens...bathroom towels were large and fluffy. My only complaint would be the lack of a proper reading light... The hotel offered cookies in the afternoon, along with ice cream and other delights ...smores in the evening by a fire as well. There were outdoor beds and areas to relax...no pool, spa or bar but that was not an issue for us.. As it was a bit off season, some of the shops and restaurants were closed... All in all a lovely place to spend a few days in the Hamptons."

"The linen, towels pillows and mattress were the best. This is definitely 5 star quality. The staff and service is 5 star as well. I truly cannot think of a single thing they could improve upon. We stayed for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay."
