PB hotel design editorial

At the heart of Asheville's historic Block district, a cluster of early twentieth-century brick industrial buildings that once housed a working foundry were converted into the 87-room Foundry Hotel Asheville, part of Hilton's Curio Collection, when the property opened in 2018. The adaptive reuse preserved the original masonry fabric almost entirely — those deep-red brick walls, the broad steel-framed factory windows, the interior courtyard with its oval lawn — giving the building an honest industrial credibility that purpose-built boutique hotels rarely achieve. From the exterior at dusk, warm light spilling through the gridded glazing against Blue Ridge sky makes the whole compound feel like a working campus brought carefully back to life. Inside, the interiors play a considered counterpoint to the raw shell. Guest rooms pair exposed brick accent walls and tall factory windows with button-tufted headboards in cream or charcoal leather, jewel-toned accent chairs in teal and burgundy, and patterned wool-blend rugs — industrial bones softened without being domesticated. The restaurant leans harder into the foundry heritage: polished concrete floors, blackened steel railing, exposed ductwork painted dark, and oversized brass dome pendants suspended above grey leather banquettes, white oak wall paneling providing warmth against the raw brick. The lobby bar takes a lighter register, with a veined marble bar face, rose-gold framed stools upholstered in teal, and opal-shaded pendants that give the space the feeling of a well-appointed railway hotel rather than a converted factory.

The Foundry Hotel Asheville, Curio Collection by Hilton Reviews

"The Foundry is a wonderful example of repurposing old spaces. The property retained a vintage vibe while creating a modern and classic feel to it. The restaurant on site was a nice option when we didn’t want to go out, and the lobby is a very comfortable spot for an evening nightcap. Was concerned the valet-only parking on-site would be a hassle but it was incredibly convenient. The location of the hotel was perfect for walking to the many downtown shops and galleries, with numerous notable restaurants a 5-10 minute walk away. And sights like the Biltmore were a short, easy drive. Highly recommend a stay here."

"Generally lazy staff and a lot of hidden costs. Breakfast was awful. Beds were comfortable and spacious, decor was really interesting."

"Beautiful hotel!! However!!!! My room assignment was horrible. Literally walked inside the room and looked out the enormous window only to see that it overlooked the valet parking lot. Literally if the window was not there, I would walk out 15 feet to the valet parking. The noise lever was unbearable. In addition to the noise, car alarm, car lock alarms, etc., the guests directly above my room were extremely loud and I think had a lot of kids. I could hear very, very loud footsteps and children yelling until 12:30 PM in addition to the cars pulling in and out of valet. Then, was awakened after a completely restless night at 5:30 AM to the loud footsteps, doors slamming, and various other loud noises. It was a completely unrestful night. The entire beauty of the hotel and my stay was ruined. I got up, did not shower and left before 10 AM as I was exhausted and over it. Horrible experience. Plus, the valet parking is $35 with no option to park yourself close by. Just an overall terrible experience. The hotel is beautiful and I am extremely disappointed."

"We stayed Memorial Day weekend and could not have gotten luckier. The hotel was beautiful, with the nicest staff. Walking distance from everything you need downtown. Piano player at night to help us wind down from the day. Very comfortable room and bed."

"I loved this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms spacious and airy. The hotel is a converted factory and the design and decor are in keeping with that motif- with brick walls and black iron in the decor. A great deal of thought and attention went into the design both aesthetically and functionally. As a fun bonus there is a tarot card reader available on Friday afternoons compliments of the hotel."
