PB hotel design editorial

Glass curtain walls that mirror the Charlotte skyline back on itself give the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel its most immediate architectural statement — a 19-story tower whose reflective skin shifts from gold to pewter as the Carolina light changes across the day. Completed in 2017 and designed by local architecture firm Neighboring Concepts, the building sits at the edge of Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte, its transparent base opening the ground level toward the green space in a gesture that connects the 229-room property to the city rather than turning away from it. The crown, with its copper-accented lantern volume visible in the skyline image, signals the rooftop bar territory above — a double-height glass pavilion where an amber-lit bar counter glows against panoramic views of the Queen City's towers. The interiors carry a restrained urban register: guest rooms finished in a palette of slate, sage, and warm taupe, with button-tufted wing chairs, oval gilt-framed mirrors mounted above cream upholstered headboards, and patterned carpets that add graphic weight underfoot without overwhelming the floor-to-ceiling glazing beyond. The ground-floor restaurant works a warmer vocabulary — reclaimed wood wall paneling, marble-topped tables, Windsor-style chairs in terracotta leather, and a branching copper pendant installation that floods the dining room with amber light. Throughout, the design navigates the tension between the corporate energy of Uptown Charlotte and the neighborhood park it faces, landing somewhere closer to confident civic hotel than either business tower or boutique retreat.

"Great hotel. Perfect location for the Bank of America stadium for a game or concert. Nice clean rooms, and fabulous staff. Especially Destiny and Dra at valet!"

"I had the pleasure of staying here over the weekend. I came in town for a concert. The staff was nothing short of amazing! The front desk staff was super friendly especially Austin, Tia & Jada ! Austin checked me in and also came up when I requested for our luggage to be taken down. Also, Mar from valet, very sweet kid. So polite, friendly and all around charismatic. The ladies in housekeeping were very friendly as well. I don’t remember her name but she came up to bring us a microwave to 1121 and was very sweet as well! This location was amazing! I will definitely be back. If there are any incentives for reviews for the staff please be sure they receive them. Very great team!"

"I just had to share my thoughts about Drazen, Destiny and Anthony at the valet. They are the most cordial, courteous, friendly and competent people I've met in a service profession. If I ever needed employees I would want them working for me. Treat them well!"

"Good afternoon, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience staying at your hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. First, I would like to say that I truly enjoy staying at your property—the rooftop is amazing, and your staff has always been excellent and welcoming. However, I would like to offer some constructive feedback regarding the rooftop seating policy. I recently had friends visiting from out of town, and I was excited to bring them to your hotel and showcase the rooftop. Unfortunately, after reserving a table, we were asked to that we will have to get up because this table was reserved for the next gas after two hours. This created an uncomfortable and somewhat embarrassing situation, especially since we were actively ordering food and drinks and hoping to continue enjoying the space. From a guest’s perspective, especially when hosting visitors, it would be great to have a more flexible arrangement. One suggestion I’d like to offer is designating certain tables specifically for hotel guests, separate from those reserved for outside visitors. For example: • A section reserved for hotel guests only • A section for outside reservations This could help ensure that guests staying at the hotel feel accommodated and can fully enjoy the amenities without time pressure, especially when entertaining visitors. During my first stay, I also noticed that many of the prime tables were reserved, which limited the ability to fully enjoy the rooftop experience. I believe that making a few adjustments to the current system could greatly improve the experience for hotel guests while still being fair to outside patrons. As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of balancing guest satisfaction with operations, and I truly believe these small changes could make a big difference in overall guest experience. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to continuing to stay at your hotel in the future. Sincerely,
Darius Wilson"
