"There are so many things that were poor about this hotel. They obviously have spent lots of money on design consultants. They flopped. The hotel is quite dark (even in the lobby) with everything black, dark brown, with dark red , gold and ocher trim. Not my taste, but others might like it. The problems are with the practicalities of design: To shut the curtains I had to climb on the bed which was at an angle in front of the window with a benchlike structure behind it; the night tables had no drawers; the closet bar was 7 1/2 feet from the floor--my 5'3" wife couldn't reach to hang clothing; the drawers have no handles so you have to search to find them in the dark room (where I had to use my flashlight to see the thermostat and light switches); the drawers were all low, requiring bending down (which is hard for people with bad knees); the safe was in a bottom drawer under the closet and I had to kneel on the floor to use it. The bed is low--again hard for older people to get up from. The second part of the closet held an iron, ironing board and steamer, but there was no outlet for the steamer that was anywhere near a place to hang a jacket or dress. The bridal party wanted to steam the bride's dress. They asked for an extension cord and were told there wasn't one. The staff went out and bought one. The bathroom sink (only one sink) was a rectangular shape and the faucet is placed right at the edge so that when you wash your hands, it is impossible not to splash the counter. Also, the towels are at the other end of the bathroom from the sink! Shower design also poor. Other flaws: light switches only at front door and bathroom. Only one pole lamp could be turned on independently of all the other lights. No chair, just a hassock to sit on. Although the staff was friendly and courteous, that couldn't make up for the design flaws."

"Stayed here for business, and the location was very convenient for walking to and from the office. Some of the staff were incredible, while others were a little rude. As a UK resident, I found the interaction at check-in particularly disappointing, when a staff member made an issue of my mobile number not being American. It wasn’t a great start to the stay, and I felt it could have been handled much more politely. I also didn’t receive the level of room I had paid for due to the hotel being overbooked. This was ultimately fine, but again, I felt the situation could have been communicated in a much nicer way. The room itself was okay. The door was initially difficult to open, although a very kind member of staff came and sorted this out. Room service was a little hit and miss depending on what you ordered, although I definitely recommend the grilled cheese — it was delicious! The views of Philadelphia from the room were absolutely stunning. Cleanliness was generally okay, although the room was noticeably dusty in places. On my second night, I had an unsettling experience around 3am when someone attempted to open my room door. It turned out to be a drunk guest who had mistaken my room for theirs. This wasn’t the hotel’s fault, and they dealt with it quickly and appropriately, but as a woman travelling alone, it was understandably quite unsettling. Overall, the stay was okay. The location and views were fantastic, and there were some genuinely lovely staff members, but due to my experience I don’t think I would return."

"Although the hotel comes with high praise, we walked in to old food under the furniture, a broken unusable bathroom sliding door, and lights that didn’t seem to work properly… we were out most of the day enjoying the city, and got back late… so when we told the staff, we couldn’t have them come check the room because it was late and my child was ready to sleep… but really at 1am I shouldn’t have to do this, my room should have been cleaned considering I was paying over $800!! The bathroom situation was annoying but thankfully it was a sunny day and we were out most the night.. When we arrived , the guest services confused us with another guest, wasting our time and for the the did pretend to offer us a breakfast credit, I say pretend because when we got breakfast we were charged full price with out getting the credit promised…. The management when we emailed them after being dismissed by the in house staff, decided to ignore our complaint and told us if we decided to go back, they would take care of us… but I wouldn’t make this mistake again so it seeems they are deciding not to do anything to make up for this crap happening… which means it will continue to happen… good luck everyone else"

"Our stay at the W Philadelphia did not meet the standards we normally associate with Marriott or expect from a hotel in this category. It is clear that the W prioritizes style over function, particularly in its unconventional room and bathroom design. When we arrived, we had to search for a bellman. Once located, he took our luggage only as far as the front desk, and another employee later brought it to the room. The front desk staff was neither welcoming nor particularly hospitable. Although we were initially excited to be assigned a room on the 40th floor, the room itself was disappointing. It was very dark, and the lighting controls tied multiple fixtures together, making it difficult to turn on only the lights we wanted. There were no table lamps suitable for reading. The round bedside table was too small to hold much, and the bed was unusually low, making it difficult for older guests to get in and out. The room also lacked a refrigerator, requiring us to place our drinks in the honor bar. The bathroom layout was poorly designed. The toilet was in a separate room with no sink, while the main bathroom and shower area had only a curtain rather than a door. Housekeeping also fell short. Dirty drinking glasses were not removed, and clean replacements were not provided. Electrical outlets were limited, and my Mac charger repeatedly fell out of the wall receptacle. Later in the evening, after we were trying to sleep, significant noise from the hallway carried into the room and disturbed our rest. On the morning of checkout, elevator access to our floor was cut off without clear advance notice. When I returned from a meeting, I could not take the elevator back to our room and had to climb several flights of stairs. This was an unreasonable inconvenience, particularly because Gold Elite members are eligible for late checkout, subject to availability. Despite our Gold Elite status, we did not feel that our loyalty was recognized or that the experience differed in any meaningful way from that of a regular guest. Overall, the hotel appears to place greater emphasis on dramatic design than on guest comfort, practicality, attentive service, and value. I would not recommend it."

"Ugliest hotel room ever. Interior design students should each be assigned a room and have to list what is wrong with it. First of all, do not stay here if you are under 6 feet tall. The bar in the closet is 7 feet high, the vanity and mirror are too high, the counter is too high. Second, bring Dramamine. The bed is permanently designed to be askew and with the wallpaper design, will make you dizzy. The room would get the feng shui booby prize. It is very hard to not bump into obstructing tables, etc. The chair and small tables, which are meant to be moveable are way too heavy to move. The full-length mirror is not against the wall -- instead, it wastes space by being drilled into the floor a foot away. The hand towel rack is on the opposite side of the sink and covers a light switch, and the sink has a flat bottom such that there is always stagnant water in it. There is no hook near the shower for your towel -- it is on the wrong side. The shower is only half-closed, so the floor gets wet. The bathroom has only a sliding door, so I would not room with a friend -- you won't have privacy. Worst of all, there is no way to turn on just the bathroom light, or just the desk lights, etc. Either you turn all the lights on in the room and bathroom at once or none at all. The TV is a gigantic visual obstruction. There is an ugly illuminated circle on the bathroom mirror with a magnifier -- great if you are at least 5 foot 8 inches tall. The bathrobe hangs near the toilet, which is great for absorbing splashes. Even the hallway to the rooms has a weird crooked wall along one side, and someone in the elevator remarked that the elevator felt like a nightclub -- flashy with loud music. The elevator bank was completely black one time I came back and when I asked the desk about it, they said it was meant to be like that. Outlet near my bed had a lamp plugged in. When I took out the plug to plug my phone in it didn't work. Room is filled with ridiculous fugly furniture -- like how the heck a failed interior design school student got this contract and designed this furniture with these legs, including the vanity and the dizzying tile and checkerboard smoky mirrored walls is beyond comprehension. Finally, bed was mushy. Parking is outrageous. Otherwise, everything was fine."
