PB hotel design editorial

Along Puerto Rico's northeastern coast, where a former plantation landscape gives way to a nature reserve bordering the Atlantic, low-slung pavilions distributed across 483 acres of coconut groves and wetlands established a different model for Caribbean resort design. The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, which underwent a comprehensive renovation completed in 2021, spreads its 139 rooms and suites across a cluster of two-story structures that keep their profile well below the palm canopy — an aerial view confirming how thoroughly the buildings defer to the landscape rather than dominate it. The guest rooms are finished in a palette of warm limestone tile, bleached oak casegoods, and tightly woven area rugs in sand and aqua stripe, the vaulted and coffered ceiling forms giving each room a cottage-like volume that contradicts the resort's considerable scale. The interiors carry the atmosphere of a well-edited coastal residence rather than a branded property, with upholstered linen headboards, powder-blue accent chairs, and credenzas in wire-brushed white oak doing the quiet work of establishing Caribbean ease without resorting to rattan cliché. The restaurant presents a sharper register — a backlit brass bar with perforated geometric cladding, cobalt velvet stools, and cone-pendant lighting arranged above dark stone countertops suggests something closer to a Miami dining room than a beachside grill. The freeform pool, threaded between sea grape and royal palm, dissolves toward the Atlantic in a geometry that makes the boundary between cultivated garden and nature reserve genuinely difficult to locate.

"So the people are the nicest ever l !! The hotel part of the four seasons is to die for and perfect. The villas are a little old !! Need a make over !! Las verandas needs a re do bad. The best part of the hotel is the animal sanctuary. I have donated and spent time there. It’s beyond heartbreaking and makes me so sad. Please if anyone can donate and adopt those poor abused animals. I will be back and definitely only stay in the hotel part. Over all amazing. Definitely just the villa was the only downfall. The staff was the best ever and the food was delicious. Stay in the HOTEL !!"

"Worst meal ever , complained and nothing , for a large organisation to avoid remaking my ceaser salad is unacceptable and to be told croutons , bacon and anchovies are not necessary, they are boasting a Michelin chef , don’t believe it , Very rude not to acknowledge a complaint"

"Great property, although it does feel a bit dated. The beach is just OK. The entranceway to the hotel is spectacularly manicured. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite that was well maintained. Everything is pretty on point. Hotel breakfast was great too although dinner lacked flavor. Over all a good stay."

"This was our first time staying in both Puerto Rico and a St. Regis hotel- and both exceeded our expectations. From check in to check out- everything was wonderful. First and foremost is the staff. Everybody who works here is polite, friendly, and always willing to help. The grounds are lush and beautiful and everything you’d want in a tropical getaway. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. This was also one of the largest bathrooms we’ve ever seen in a non-suite room. The bathroom has a rain shower head and for once, the water pressure was adequate. That’s usually rare for many hotels. I will say this though, the room isn’t completely dark at night, all sorts of flashing and bright lights, and the drapes do not block all the sun in the mornings. Bring a sleeping mask if you’re sensitive to light. Also- you’re in the jungle, the local frogs and insects can be quite noisy at night. The rooms block nosies quite well, but again, if you’re sensitive- bring earplugs. The pool is large, clean, and finding seats was never an issue. (The pool is also open 24 hours.) The staff at the pool were very attentive. The beach is pretty, but due to where the resort is situated, red flags are usually up due to strong rip currents. Not safe for swimming but you could still wade out a decent amount before it gets dangerous. Dining options are limited on property but having said that, all the food was excellent. You could eat here every day and it would be fine. However, I do recommend renting a car and getting out for dinners once in a while- well worth it since getting a taxi or uber is difficult and expensive. All in all, a wonderful experience. This location is becoming a Four Seasons in the fall, but I’m sure the high quality of service will continue."

"We had an amazing 6 day stay at the resort with my family. This place had everything you could ever ask for from a luxury resort in a beautiful location. When we arrived, we received a very yummy juice with rum infused for the adults. We were helped by a kind valet for our rental car. The valet cost $24 a night and was available 24/7. The room was spacious and stacked with complimentary amenities. This included a nightly delivery of cookies, slippers, pillow spray, jewelry trays and more. We often found random helpful surprises every day when we came back to the room. There was service twice a day and the maid was very sweet. The room included a luxury collection of shampoo and other products that we actually used at home as well. The beach was a very short walk away from our room. We only walked over a few times, partly due to our love for the pool, but it was amazing. The sand was clean and the water was very warm. The beach was big and had chairs and other places to sit. The pool was extremely clean and very large, with different areas so you could find somewhere nice to enjoy. They set up chairs, towels, and umbrellas for us everyday so we could swim or tan whenever we wanted. The breakfast was very tasty and included fruit, many drinks, and a variety of eggs, pastries, and others. All eateries in the resort included both tradition Puerto Rican food and traditional American cuisine. The buffet cost $45 per person while a food meal by the pool cost $20-25. All of the food was fresh and delicious. The staff were very friendly and we never encountered someone who wasn't willing to help. We were often offered water bottles, juices, or golf cart rides to where we needed to go. They spoke fluent english and spanish and were very sweet. They told us stories of the area and suggestions of how to spend our time. Shoutout Yariel! The resort was filled with useful amenities as well, including a 18+ spa, gym, free kayaking on the lake along with nature tours. This kept us busy all day long. The resort was also in a prime location for exploring outside of the resort. This included a short drive to both San Juan, nearby beach towns, and El Yunque Rainforest. I would truly recommend this resort to anyone traveling, either for a romantic getaway or even a whole family trip for young kids. They provided everything you would ever need in a private environment that did not feel commercial. Definitely 5 stars!!!"
