PB hotel design editorial

At the edge of Waterfront Park where Vendue Range meets Charleston Harbor, a red-brick building of neo-Georgian persuasion anchors one of the city's most coveted corners — directly opposite the park's famous pineapple fountain, with water views stretching toward Fort Sumter. HarbourView Inn was purpose-built for hospitality rather than converted from a prior civic life, which gives it a structural confidence rare among Charleston's boutique properties: arched brick surrounds frame the upper windows from the inside out, exposed in the guest rooms as warm, sandy masonry that Charleston's historic building stock makes feel entirely native. The interiors carry a Lowcountry coastal register without leaning into the predictable palmetto-and-plaid routine. Throughout the 52 rooms and public spaces, the palette holds to powder blue, warm white, and grey-blue wool throws, with headboards upholstered in a teardrop-motif fabric that supplies just enough pattern against otherwise quiet walls. Cane-fronted armoires in chalky blue, plantation shutters on arched windows, and rattan seating place the rooms in a well-bred Southern beach-house tradition. The second-floor lobby lounge — furnished with a velvet sectional in cobalt, a carved limestone fireplace with ironwork grate, and a live-edge coffee table — introduces a slightly richer material note, the ceiling fan and antique-style harbor map on the wall keeping the atmosphere grounded rather than formal.

"We stayed three nights at the HarbourView Inn and found it to be a wonderful experience. The entire staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant. The room was spacious and comfortable and the location near numerous restaurants and attractions was excellent. Our room was on the fourth floor and there is a terrific rooftop terrace where you can bring wine and goodies from the daily wine and cheese hour each evening. There is a continental breakfast included each day and you can choose to have it brought to the rooftop, the atrium or your room. If you do choose the rooftop be aware that the birds that hang out near there will hover around and will attempt to join you. The atrium has coffee and fruit available a good part of the day and in the afternoon there is tea and lemonade available as well. Each night at 9 there are cookies and milk available in the lobby. I loved most of the features of our room save one...the Wi-Fi was extremely slow. I thought this might be due to my devices but connections at other accommodations on our trip convinced me otherwise. I suspect that this may have been something unique to the room as sometimes the routers do not always reach the rooms evenly."

"We had a wonderful experience in this quiet boutique hotel. The staff and customer service are top notch, from the valets to the front desk to the room service. Nightly happy hours are fun with a selection of wine and a whiskey punch, and nice charcuterie spread. You can get your wine and cheese and enjoy it in the lobby, on the terrace or in your room. There is no restaurant on site, but breakfast is included which you order the night before, specifying the time you would like it delivered and the place...your room, the lobby, or the terrace. The location is great, within walking distance of many restaurants and the City Market."
