PB hotel design editorial

At the edge of Waterfront Park where Vendue Range meets Charleston Harbor, a red-brick building of neo-Georgian persuasion anchors one of the city's most coveted corners — directly opposite the park's famous pineapple fountain, with water views stretching toward Fort Sumter. HarbourView Inn was purpose-built for hospitality rather than converted from a prior civic life, which gives it a structural confidence rare among Charleston's boutique properties: arched brick surrounds frame the upper windows from the inside out, exposed in the guest rooms as warm, sandy masonry that Charleston's historic building stock makes feel entirely native. The interiors carry a Lowcountry coastal register without leaning into the predictable palmetto-and-plaid routine. Throughout the 52 rooms and public spaces, the palette holds to powder blue, warm white, and grey-blue wool throws, with headboards upholstered in a teardrop-motif fabric that supplies just enough pattern against otherwise quiet walls. Cane-fronted armoires in chalky blue, plantation shutters on arched windows, and rattan seating place the rooms in a well-bred Southern beach-house tradition. The second-floor lobby lounge — furnished with a velvet sectional in cobalt, a carved limestone fireplace with ironwork grate, and a live-edge coffee table — introduces a slightly richer material note, the ceiling fan and antique-style harbor map on the wall keeping the atmosphere grounded rather than formal.

"We stayed at the HarbourView February 22-24 . We were originally only booked for one night, but with the Blizzard of 2026 slamming into the exact coast, our flight home was cancelled and we needed to stay another night. When I called to extend our stay the front desk worked its magic and was able to keep us it the same room for the extra night. When we checked in, Jonathan at the front desk welcomed us and not only apologized for the elevator being out of service ( we were in the 4th floor), but he comped our valet parking. When he found out it was my husband’s birthday, he then gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. When we walked into our beautiful room, complete with fireplace and balcony, there was a bottle of champagne chilling in an ice bucket! The breakfast was wonderful, with many options and afternoon cocktails very relaxing. The late night cookies and milk were a perfect end to each day. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant and offered help if needed. We will definitely stay here again!"

"A belated thank you to the staff at the HarbourView Inn for their wonderful customer service. I recently brought a small group to Charleston for a culinary tour. The front desk team was flexible and attentive as I arranged the rooms months before the trip and took care of all the details during our stay. A special shout out to Melony, Jodi, Jonathan, and Douglas! The charming hotel rooms were spacious, comfy and sparkling clean. And the historic harbor location can't be beat. I would definitely stay here again."

"The construction project across the street is ongoing on the harbor side of the building. If you upgrade to a harbor view you will be watching construction 24-7. This went on all night for 2 nights and all day each day including Sunday. Sleep was difficult and we spent as much time as possible out of the room. We were told by the staff before arrival that the project was done and was only happening internally at the new hotel but that was not the case. The noise also affects the rooftop which would have been lovely to enjoy without the deafening noise."

"As a solo traveler, I arrived into Charleston (a new city for me) in the evening and it was wonderful to walk into the warm and welcoming lobby. There were guests lingering over the wine and cheese that the hotel serves which added to the nice atmosphere. The front desk staff was efficient and friendly, making sure that I knew about the amenities and local spots for dinner while getting me to my room quickly. The bed was incredibly comfortable with quality linens, the room and bathroom spacious, and it was pleasantly quiet. They even had a white noise machine which was a nice touch. They serve a solid breakfast with warm pastries and good coffee -- and the kitchen crew is very attentive too! Pro tip: As breakfast is served in an atrium on the first floor, I think you'd want to request a room away from that spot for more privacy / quiet. I'd definitely stay there again and recommend it to my friends. All in all, the hospitality felt generous and genuine. Now I just wish that I could recreate that bed experience at my house!"
