PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Main and Butler in Memphis's South Main Arts District, where a vintage streetcar still runs past brick warehouses that once served the city's cotton trade, a five-story building fitted with arched industrial windows and a vertical neon sign announces ARRIVE Memphis with the confidence of a neighborhood institution rather than a newcomer. The 1920s-era structure, adapted into a 78-room hotel, carries its commercial heritage lightly — exposed brick framing the oversized arched windows in the guestrooms, polished terrazzo underfoot, and steel-framed glazed partitions separating bedrooms from bathrooms tiled in vivid Moorish-patterned blue and white. The interiors, designed by Memphis-based Studio Villa, layer eclecticism with genuine warmth rather than forced quirkiness. In the lobby lounge, deep teal paneling with Greek-key molding detail sets off a large bird's-eye lithographic map of Memphis above a mix of tufted Chesterfield sofas, velvet swivel chairs in dusty rose and amber, and Persian rugs grounding the arrangement on honey-toned oak parquet. The bar carries the same easy pluralism — oak cabinetry with cane inserts, a white marble counter, navy velvet stools alongside a gilded Rococo armchair upholstered in chinoiserie fabric. Guest rooms pair that same botanical wallpaper featuring silhouetted tree canopies against grey with warm-toned wingback chairs, tufted leather benches, and faded vintage rugs that keep the atmosphere closer to a well-curated apartment than a conventional hotel room.

"The Arrive hotel in Memphis was the perfect hotel for our two night stay. The location on Main St couldn’t be better, with bars, shops and restaurants in walking distance. I loved the decor of the hotel, our room was fabulous. However, the lasting impression was of the staff, all of whom couldn’t do more to make us welcome. A particular ’shout out’ to Lamaria who ensured we had the best time. It was a birthday to remember. Thank you to the Arrive team. We’ll be back. x"

"My husband and I had a one night overnight stay at arrive hotel in Memphis. It is a small boutique hotel decorated with charming eclectic southern interiors. We stayed in a larger room on the fifth floor the bed very comfortable, Cotton sheets, uncomfortable pillows. Staff is very kind,, courteous, and helpful. No need to worry about parking as valet service is available. We would stay here again!"

"Stayed at Arrive on a business trip to attend the private opening of the Legacy Experience at the National Civil Rights Museum. The hotel is a vibe and the staff are amazing. The location is perfect for walking to the museum, Beale Steet, and visiting the Peabody ducks. The other amenities like the Cafe, coffee shop, and bar are a strong plus. Food, coffee, and drinks were all delicious and super enjoyable in a wonderful setting."

"We are on a road trip around the southern states and have stayed in hiltons every stop apart from this one. What a mistake. On check in the receptionist told me just park anywhere on the street, dont pay, no one checks anyway. Im in a hire car… The rooms including bathroom are open plan and there is really no privacy even when in the shower. See through glass is like an Amsterdam peep show. No phone in the room and the phones are down in the hotel so i messaged reception on booking.com and text, no answer. There are no coffee making facilities in the room. I had the following conversation with the receptionist in the cafe…. Do you not supply a coffee maker or kettle in the room? No sir… How do i get a coffee? You get one here… Can i have a coffee please? No, the cafes closed, i can get you hot water though…. Can i have hot water please? No I dont work in the cafe… Where can i get coffee from? I dont know, probably a few blocks away.. It was like a comedy sketch. I had to buy a coffee from a bar down the street. No iron in the room so i went back to reception as messages were not answered. $100 a night deposit? Im not sure what for, definitely not for hot drinks….. And its only our first night…."
