PB hotel design editorial

Fourteen stories of stepped Art Deco brickwork rising above Fourth Avenue North place Holston House Nashville within one of downtown's most recognizable pre-war commercial towers — the former Noel Hotel, built in 1930, whose limestone base with its ornamental medallions and fluted pilasters remains intact at street level, framing an entrance that still carries the civic confidence of Depression-era Nashville. The conversion brought the building back as a 243-room hotel, and the rooftop addition visible in the images — housing a pool deck with glass balustrades that frame AT&T's Batman Building and the surrounding downtown skyline — was grafted onto the historic structure without disturbing the tower's original stepped crown. Inside, the interior approach works in a warm mid-century register: dark-stained hardwood floors, walnut-toned millwork on the credenzas and wardrobe surrounds, upholstered linen headboards with leather-trimmed accents, and pendant fixtures in amber glass and brushed brass. The guest rooms are furnished with a restrained confidence — patterned drapery panels in an abstract botanical print, desk chairs in cognac leather, pale blue area rugs grounding the palette. The ground-floor restaurant carries terrazzo flooring and a long bar counter lined with saddle-tan stools, Edison-style pendants hung at varied heights against a walnut-panelled ceiling, the whole composition leaning closer to a well-appointed Nashville diner of the 1950s than anything generically boutique.

"As someone who has spent her entire career traveling the U.S., I definitely have strong opinions about what is good and not good about hotels. The quickest way to my heart - good sheet and towel quality. My husband I spent two nights here on a quick trip to Nashville and the sheets were among the most luxe I’ve ever experienced! Two wonderful nights of sleep courtesy of the comfy bed! Big walk-in shower was also a bonus. I will definitely stay here on future trips to Nashville. The service in the bar was also very friendly and efficient. Great hotel!"

"Beautiful hotel so close to Broadway without the noise and congestion around some of the chain hotels located in close proximity. Everything was so tastefully done! Lobby and bar area are beautiful! Room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did not have a chance to eat at the hotel but people were giving it rave reviews. We have family in Nashville and visit frequently; this is going to be our new go-to hotel"

"Was there for a concert at Bridgestone, and since I was traveling alone, location was my top priority. The hotel is about a block away, which made it easy to get there and back. The rooms were spotless, yet cozy at the same time. I was really happy with my experience and will definitely stay again in the future!"

"My wife Tracey and I (Mick) travelling from the U.K. stayed at The Holston House Hotel for a 5 night stay but we wish it could have been longer. It is a 4 Star hotel with a 5 Star service, it’s that good ! The rooms are of good size and spotlessly clean. All the staff make you feel welcome and cannot do enough for you. Staff members Adam, Alexis and Breck went above & beyond in helping us navigate Nashville City. We are so grateful to them. The bar area has good food and had a gluten free vegetarian option for Tracey, plus a great supply of varied drinks. There is usually a guest singer on the premises. A big shout out has to go to our bar server Ashley who made us feel very welcome with her professional and friendly manner. As mentioned my wife has to follow a gluten free vegetarian diet which, to be honest, is sometimes very difficult for her. But the breakfast restaurant staff made sure this would not be an issue, and supplied Tracey with very tasty and delicious meals. The hotel’s location is excellent. It is a 5 minute walk to the Ryman Auditorium, and a 10 minute walk to the City’s fantastic downtown bar area. If you are visiting Nashville there is no better hotel to stay at. We would give this revue 6 stars if we could have !"
