PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Korean Veterans Boulevard in Nashville's SoBro district, a 21-floor tower with a sharply angled curtain wall of silver-framed glass cuts a confident silhouette against the Cumberland River skyline — the architectural home of The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel, which opened in 2021. Designed by Tuck-Hinton Architects with interiors by Looney & Associates, the building's chamfered glass corner gives the facade an angular energy that distinguishes it from the convention-adjacent towers nearby, the lower podium clad in large-format panels that anchor the massing before the tower rises above. Inside, the design leans into a narrative of Nashville's industrial past — burl wood headboards, leather sofas with brass-framed arms, and photography of the city's former industrial waterfront hanging in the suites. The bar is the property's most atmospheric space: a Portoro marble counter runs the full length of the room beneath a ceiling installation of cascading burgundy fringe that moves somewhere between theatrical gesture and textile sculpture. The rooftop pool deck, framed by a colonnaded steel pergola and a vertical garden wall, gives the hotel's 297 rooms a rooftop counterpoint where the geometry of the building's structure softens into loungers and cabanas at golden hour. Throughout, the palette holds to slate blue, cognac leather, and burnished brass — materials that translate Nashville's musical and industrial history into a register appropriate for a Marriott luxury flag.

"My bucket list contained one last item - staying at the Joseph Nashville TN. It has been a week since I booked the best room available for the 4th of July 26. We are seniors in our golden years with the addition of a walker for one of us - traveling isn't so easy any longer. But I so wanted to stay here. It has been a week since I made the reservation - which right after booking I was charged for the entire stay. Following all the instructions as to how to cancel in the next few hours, I did just that. BUT apparently I booked a non refundable rate (which I didn't realize-my bad). Having talked to several people all week (daily) and being reassured this happens and they would be refunding the amount, they still have not. I was reassured that someone would contact me, with each daily call, and no one has taken the time to do so. It is such a disrespect of a company to treat any person that way, especially since my husband is a Mariott Rewards Member for 30+ years. Don't say one thing and do nothing. Man up people. The supervisor of the front desk did say on my second conversation with me, that "wow, this is a lot of $"....yes sir it is. He said it would have to be turned over to the finance department. Now I feel like a criminal - as if I stole something from their hotel? All I did was make a reservation for one last trip before we put away our suitcases. With the way our lives are at this point, we can't book a room that's not cancelable shortly before. It's just how life is. I am also wondering if perhaps they don't care to have people our age with a walker in their hotel.....it's a strange world we live in and people with disabilities are looked at by many people. Sad but true. I have had front desk experience at a boutique hotel in my life time and this is NOT how you treat people. Yes, I made a mistake but really the only mistake I made was wanting to stay at The Joseph. My husband will attest that I am a Ritz Girl and I will confirm they won't treat people in their properties like I am being treated by The Joseph. Just beware people when booking - it could become a nightmare for you."

"Booked as part of the Amex fine hotels and resorts program. This property should not be a part of that collection. We actually left early. The staff was super nice, but our room was 73-75 degrees our entire stay. They kept sending maintenance to the room but never followed up. The restaurant on the property was mediocre. Lovely staff at every contact, but definitely not worthy of the ‘fine hotels and resorts’ program. Incredibly disappointing. Would not stay again because there are so many good hotels in Nashville to choose from."

"They overcharged me and didn’t issue the credits that were promised at checkout. Called when I didn’t see them come off. They apologized and said they would credit back the $250+ that they overcharged. A week later and that still hasn’t happened but they did charge another $40 to my card. It’s a decent enough hotel, but now I’m going to end up spending a bunch of time chasing down money they’ve stolen from me. This was our 3rd and probably last time staying there. Watch your card statements. Make sure they don’t just arbitrarily charge you for more than they should."
