PB hotel design editorial

Along the wooded banks of Lady Bird Lake, where live oaks lean over the water and the Austin skyline rises just beyond the treeline, the Four Seasons Austin has held its position as the city's most quietly authoritative address since opening in 1986. The ten-storey building, designed with a low-slung lakefront podium that steps down through terraced gardens to the hike-and-bike trail below, gives the property a relationship with its landscape that most downtown hotels forgo entirely. That connection is made legible in the images: a covered outdoor terrace with a slatted wood ceiling, cable railings, and ceiling fans draws the building toward the water rather than away from it, while the ground-level restaurant terrace spreads into a landscaped lawn planted with agave, muhly grass, and native palms. Interior spaces, refreshed in recent years with guidance from Rottet Studio, carry a palette of warm greige, taupe, and caramel leather that feels calibrated to Texas light rather than imported from a generic luxury template. Guestrooms are furnished with channeled upholstered headboards in muted grey-green, walnut-toned case goods, and woven carpets in sand and flax, the floor-to-ceiling sliders opening onto balconies that frame either the lake or the low-rise cityscape. The restaurant interior — herringbone white-oak floors, cognac barrel chairs with brass-tipped legs, steel-framed glazing that folds open to the terrace — gives the dining experience an ease that belongs to Austin's outdoor-oriented character without abandoning the considered material finish the brand demands.

"Amazing luxury hotel in the heart of Austin. Note: Didn't pay for the stay so no commentary on the actual value. The Four Seasons Austin is an institution as far back as I can remember in Austin when it was the only luxury hotel in town. Located right next to the river, overlooking the congress street bats as well. A bit off from dining or other drinking venues, but downtown austin isn't big enough that a 10 minute walk can't get you to where you want to go. The lobby itself is impressively luxurious, opening onto a grand bar, seating areas, and then check in areas tucked away. The service is impeccable, from the valet at the front to the front desk. Definitely the 5 star feel. The room itself is very well appointed, luxurious bedding, heavenly bed, large sitting area. Doesn't really have a great work desk which is an issue for business travelers, but perfect for vacation. Great complimentary coffee and tea selection. Bathroom is also very well appointed, shower pressure is amazing, and very large bathroom. The rest of the property is also amazing. Lobby bar is great, nice restaurant and outdoor patio overlooking the river, and easy access to a running trail. Very highly recommended."

"Love this hotel! Have stayed numerous times for work trips and for leisure. Service is impeccable and the location is perfect. Rooms have been recently renovated and are very nice. The only thing that is somewhat subpar is the pool - it’s still great but not as nice as it could be especially when compared to so many other new hotels in downtown Austin. But the location and service help compensate for that!"

"We came into town to visit friends who recently moved to Austin, we looked and liked the location of the Four Seasons, so made that our base. It was a great choice. The hotel is within easy walking distance to hip restaurants, breakfast places, and sixth street with all the live music. But if you decide you want to have a different kind of day, the hotel also sits on a lake where there are paddle boarders and kayaks galore, areas to lounge in hammocks or big chairs, a saltwater pool, and a big “backyard” space with rocking chairs. We took advantage of all it, and it was great. We went to sixth street to see music, but there was also live music in the lobby bar so there was something for every mood you may be in. The service was all terrific as one would expect, the rooms were comfortable (we had a king overlooking the lake connected to our kids room also overlooking the lake). Housekeeping was impeccable and we had zero complaints about the rooms or the hotel itself. It’s really a great option for a discerning traveller who finds themselves in Austin. We now find ourselves coming up with a new reason to come back. Great hotel. Highly recommend."

"We cannot thank the Four Seasons Austin enough for their incredible hospitality during an unexpected detour from Dallas to Austin with our two babies under 2. Arriving at 1am, we were blown away to find our room perfectly prepared with two cribs, baby supplies, diapers, wipes, and our room service order waiting at the table. The staff’s thoughtfulness and attention to detail turned a stressful situation into the best possible reset before heading home the next day. The food at the resort was phenomenal, and the staff, especially Toom from room service, went above and beyond with kindness and professionalism, making everything seamless. We had no plans to visit Austin, but thanks to this exceptional experience, we’re already looking forward to returning just to stay at the Four Seasons. Truly a 5-star experience!"

"Just me and Justin this time… and yes, the vibe was immaculate. The Four Seasons Austin somehow captures Texas charm and international elegance in the same breath. We stayed in a balcony room with a perfect view of Lady Bird Lake, popped a bottle (from the champagne vending machine, thank you very much), and toasted to doing life our way. Dinner before Justin’s Mimiclou show was at Ciclo… their in-house restaurant… and it did not disappoint. The tableside steak? Say less. Sophisticated without being stiff. Thoughtful service without hovering. It’s sort of perfect. Walkability is 10/10. It’s close to live music (including where Mimiclou was playing), the lake trail, and Garbo’s (which we hit for lobster rolls the next day). Bonus points for way it smells and great cocktails. This is our Austin staycation spot. No notes."
