PB hotel design editorial

That grid of arched windows — white concrete surrounds framing dark glass in a rhythm that repeats across fourteen floors above Waller Creek — belongs to a 1970s motor hotel that Austin largely forgot until Avroko and the Line Hotel group saw something worth saving. When The LINE Austin opened in 2017, the renovation kept the original building's blunt Brutalist character intact: the exposed concrete porte-cochere at street level, the stacked fenestration that gives the facade the feeling of a mid-century civic institution rather than a hospitality product, the structural columns left bare through the interiors. The 428 rooms carry that rawness inside, pairing low-slung platform beds against headboards clad in richly figured olivine burl wood, with patterned wool carpets and cage-frame pendant lights hanging from chains — a palette running to slate grey, warm timber, and dusty blue that holds the building's industrial bones without letting them dominate. Where the property earns its local standing is on the edges. The infinity pool deck, shaded by live oaks that predate the hotel, extends toward Lady Bird Lake in a way that feels more Hill Country ranch than urban retreat. Higher up, the rooftop terrace — draped in cascading pink textile canopies above rattan chairs and rose marble tables — frames the Colorado River at dusk with an eclecticism that suits Austin precisely because it refuses to resolve into a single coherent style.

"Only one elevator was working and air-conditioning felt like you were in Europe. Hope you like to sweat"

"While the common areas and Mexican restaurant are nice, the rooms were a little sad with dark lighting, spider webs in the corners, and the deal breaker was the walls are paper thin and we heard our neighbor all night long. Check please!"

"Beautifully appointed room along the water with a view to downtown. Super comfy bed. Loved the bathroom and shower. To me a five star stay. Can’t recommend highly enough."

"First time stayed at the LINE Austin and was a staycation over the July 4th weekend. We attended a July 4th Creole Surf Riot party (Excellent food and drinks) where had a great view of Congress Ave Bridge and the fireworks but also had a view of the fireworks from our room window. This hotel was very modern and has great eateries on the ground floor along with a great coffee shop. It is also very dog friendly and being on the Hike & Bike Trail there is some grass behind git and lots of it across Congress Ave but beware of homeless people. Many guests had their dogs with them. Easy to get on the trail and walk along Lady Bird Lake. Our hotel room was large and very clean. Everything worked fine but beware the hot water is scolding hot and the TV did quiet work where could not change channels. Luckily was stuck on the FOX channel showing the FIFA World Cup. We had a great view of the Congress Bridge but saw no bats. With the bed being so low our small dog was able to jump on and off the bed, and this hotel provided a pet blanket and two large bowls. The parking valet went smooth without any issues. Overall this was a luxury hotel where the guests are treated nicely and perfect for a downtown Austin getaway."

"We stayed at The LINE Austin for one night to celebrate our anniversary, and overall we had a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, Valet was quick to greet us and get us in the right direction to check in. Peyton at the front desk made us feel welcomed with a friendly attitude and excellent service. The check-in process was smooth, and our waterfront room was the perfect romantic touch for our special occasion. After settling into our room, we discovered the Apple TV wasn't working. We called the front desk, and someone came up almost immediately to fix it, which we really appreciated. The quick response and great customer service made a big difference. The only minor downsides were that the room only had one robe instead of two, and the clothing steamer wasn't working, which made it a little difficult to get our outfits ready for date night. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely recommend The LINE Austin for anyone looking for a relaxing stay in downtown Austin close to everything & lady bird lake. The beautiful location, comfortable accommodations, and attentive staff made our anniversary celebration memorable."
