PB hotel design editorial

Deep Ellum's century-long run as Dallas's most restless creative district — jazz clubs giving way to blues bars, warehouse raves, and now a wave of mixed-use development — gives the Kimpton Pittman Hotel its most persuasive design argument. The building, completed in 2019 and developed by Headington Companies, works across two structures: a sensitively restored early twentieth-century brick warehouse and a new tower addition whose board-formed concrete ceilings are left exposed in the upper-floor rooms, the raw finish sitting against white walls and light oak herringbone flooring with a confidence that avoids the usual industrial-chic clichés. The black steel and glass entrance canopy visible at street level pulls both volumes into a single legible gesture without erasing the material difference between them. The 164 rooms carry a palette that runs from slate grey leather bed frames and deep navy velvet curtains through to teal-upholstered channeled lounge chairs, the abstract expressionist prints above each headboard giving the spaces an energy that keeps them from tipping into corporate neutrality. Downstairs, the restaurant swings in a different register entirely — deep-buttoned chestnut leather banquettes, reclaimed oak tabletops on industrial metal bases, polished concrete floors, and a wall of decorative ceramic plates that nods to the neighbourhood's arts history. The courtyard pool, framed by navy-trimmed canvas cabanas and teak furniture against an original brick party wall threaded with climbing ivy, manages something genuinely difficult: it carries the atmosphere of a private club without the exclusion that usually implies.

About

Located in the heart of Downtown Dallas' live music and entertainment district is our Kimpton Pittman Hotel with deep roots in the heart of Deep Ellum. With one foot in the future and one foot in the past, our building was designed by African- American Architect, William Sidney Pittman in 1916. Blends of brick clad exterior meshes with modern Leed Silver Certified interiors. Our walls also talk! Our communal spaces are dotted with artwork reflecting the neighborhood's creative history. Guestrooms boast a minimalist palette with soft lighting, geometric prints and bold pops of color. Downstairs, our all- day eatery, Elm & Good, specializes in seasonal plates and elevated cocktails. Mingle on the outdoor pool deck and take in some live music curated by our local talent, sipping some Topo Chico sparkling water and craft beers around our communal fire pits. We are tipping our hats to that big-hearted Texas hospitality-- all smiles, no fuss.

"Unless you are heavily into the party scene, don't even think about coming here on a Friday or Saturday night. You will not fall asleep until maybe 2am. The hotel has a decidedly "W" vibe .... industrial .... not warm or welcoming. I won't go into everything I didn't like about this place, as I didn't plan on writing a book. However, I did venture into the restaurant for breakfast and it was one of the worst experiences at a hotel restaurant. There was an overly loud drunk woman at the bar, and I had to get re-seated twice, as I really didn't care to listen to her rantings and BS. I got a female server whom was absolutely terrible. She was MIA 90% of the experience, and screwed up my order. I always ask for coffee with cream (half and half), but this moron drops the coffee on the table and disappeared for 15 minutes. I finally asked one of the runners for a new cup with half and half, and that coffee was cold also. I ordered a waffle which came out cold so that had to be sent back. The new one was slightly warmer but not hot, either. She also forgot the berries that I ordered (and never received). If you do wind up here, ask for one of the male servers. But, DON'T wind up here. Honestly, if they can't do breakfast correctly, I would STAY AWAY from dinner at this place. They will likely really screw that up. Stay Elsewhere, and safe and happy travels !"

"I liked (not loved) this hotel. We had a spacious suite which was clean. The restaurant was decent, but somehow they messed our breakfast order up daily which was odd because it was quite empty. I saw bikes in the lobby that you could borrow I think. They also had a postcard stand in the lobby which you could write postcards and they are supposed to mail them out but neither one I sent ever was delivered to the recipient. The building is historic which is really cool and you can read about it on some plaques that they have posted. Location is pretty nice, there are restaurants nearby and we wandered around and found a classic car show nearby on a weekend. I am not sure if I would book this hotel again, it was good but there are better hotels in this price point in Dallas."

"Great hotel downtown Dallas in Deep Ellum area. All of the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean and nice. I had a small breakfast and coffee at Elm and Good the restaurant on site and it was lovely. Great service all around. Eleanor at the front desk knew it was my birthday and had a small charcuterie and bottle of wine sent to our room. Very nice touch! The common areas are quiet and modern and I could get some work done. No coffee maker in rooms but states that you can request one. Valet is $55/ night. There is coffee in the lobby in the mornings. Bikes are available to use. Very happy with my stay here and I will return."

"The noise from the nightclub in front of the hotel won’t let you sleep during the night. They keep On honking and having flghts at 2:30 in the morning on both friday and saturday nights and our room was on the 3rd floor directly facing this whatever establishment that is. Furthermore, they took more than 40 minutes to take the breakfast order and still brought the wrong item after waiting for an hour. The food at that elm restaurant is extremely ordinary: the eggs Benedict seemed watery, the dinner salmon was salty and too dry. the hotel vibe also lacks the regular Kimpton feel and the lobby and rooms lacked character and charm."
