PB hotel design editorial

Anheuser-Busch heir Adolphus Busch commissioned the building in 1912, hiring architect Tom Barnett to raise what would become the grandest hotel in Texas — a seventeen-story Beaux-Arts tower in rusticated red brick that still anchors Commerce Street in downtown Dallas more than a century later. The Adolphus, as it has always been known, wears its age with confidence: the facade carries an elaborate crown of French Renaissance ornament, cartouches and carved figures clustered beneath a copper-green cornice, the upper floors pulling away from the street grid with a sculptural authority that no amount of surrounding glass curtain-wall construction has managed to diminish. A 2016 renovation by interior designer Rottet Studio brought the 407 rooms into the present without severing their connection to the building's origins. Guest rooms pair cream leather headboards in deep button-quilted panels with walnut-framed nightstands and linen drapery printed in a tonal geometric, the palette running from warm sand to slate blue — livable rather than theatrical. The bar is where the building's history asserts itself most forcefully: lacquered millwork in near-black, a gilded ceiling catching candlelight, and a carved antique back-bar cabinet that functions as the room's animating object, its baroque ornament in deliberate conversation with the Victorian bones of the structure around it. The rooftop pool terrace, contemporary and spare, offers a clean counterpoint — travertine decking, in-pool loungers, and a stacked-stone water feature lit warm against the Dallas skyline at dusk.

"I arrived at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a business engagement. As a frequent patron who has cultivated cordial relationships with your staff over the years, I mentioned that I might require an additional night. The front desk advised me to book the extra night via my mobile application using my loyalty points and to return at 11:00 a.m. the next day to check out and back in, assuring me I could remain in the same room. And if I did not need it they would just cancel at 11. Following that guidance, I booked the additional night and returned on May 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Having completed my meetings, I no longer required the room and had already packed. I arrived at the front desk at 11 as instructed and I was unexpectedly informed that I had already been automatically checked in. When I attempted to clarify the situation, a gentleman summoned your manager, Deborah. Her demeanor was shockingly condescending and antagonistic. She insinuated that both she and her superior, Tim, regarded me as a problematic client and questioned the veracity of my account. Despite my calm explanation and longstanding patronage—including a recent anniversary stay during which service was exemplary—she dismissed me, refused to engage further, and instructed me to depart. Deborah summarily refused to provide a copy of my bill and insisted on charging me for the second night, asserting that it is policy to auto‑check in back‑to‑back reservations, irrespective of the advice given by the previous day’s staff. She further declined to address me by my earned professional title and spoke to me in a patronizing manner, as if I were a child. Such conduct is profoundly disrespectful and incongruent with the standards one expects from an establishment that benefits from my repeated business and the events I host there. I request a direct conversation with the aforementioned Tim, who allegedly shares Deborah’s negative impression, to elucidate why a loyal customer would be treated in such a disparaging fashion. This incident has marred an otherwise positive history with your establishment. Your immediate attention and corrective action are warranted."

"Our room was spacious, comfy bed. and the bathroom was great—nice shower and amenities! The social lobby had such a chill vibe and warm, cozy atmosphere—so much history and art. And the rooftop pool was awesome! The service at the wedding we attended was absolutely first class in every way! We really loved our stay at this unique and special hotel."

"Stayed at The Adolphus, Autograph Collection and it completely exceeded my expectations. The hotel is absolutely stunning — the perfect mix of historic charm and modern luxury without feeling overly formal or stuffy. From the lobby to the rooms, every detail feels thoughtful and elevated. The service throughout the stay was exceptional. Everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely made me feel taken care of. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere made the stay feel really special. One of the biggest highlights was the historic hotel tour with Dan. He was incredibly nice, knew so much about the hotel and its history, and made the tour such a fun experience. You could tell how passionate he is about the property, and it honestly made me appreciate the hotel even more. The location is also perfect for exploring downtown Dallas and is within walking distance to several great historic landmarks, which made the stay feel even more connected to the city’s history and character. Between the beautiful spaces, great service, and unique history, this felt like such a memorable stay. I’ll definitely be coming back, and this will absolutely be my preferred hotel whenever I’m in Dallas."

"Me and my sisters went to the French Room at the Adolphus for afternoon tea for our mother for Mother’s Day. Have never been to the Adolphus my mother and I needed to locate the restroom and were a bit lost. Nigel came to our rescue immediately! He greeted us and asked us if we were headed to the French Room. We informed him that we were headed there however we needed to use the restroom first LOL. Nigel was so kind to show us where to locate the restroom. Once we used the facilities, to our surprise Nigel was so kind to wait for us and to lead us straight to the French Room. As we were being led there, he gave us so much information history about the Hotel and informed us to come back during Christmas as well, all while leading us towards the French Room. We were impressed with his knowledge and his kindness! He was an amazing first impression of our first visit here! Once my mother and I were at the French Room we were waiting for my sisters to arrive from valet parking. Once they arrived the first thing they mentioned was “did you all meet Nigel?!” My mother and I also exclaimed that we had met him and what a wonderful job he did in leading us to where we needed to go. My sisters also explained how they met him and had a similar experience. We so enjoyed our visit for afternoon tea at the French Room! It truly was an unforgettable experience! After we had finished tea, and began our departure from the Adolphus, Nigel met us again to say goodbye and hoped we enjoyed our time! He left a great first and lasting impression on us and we were thankful for all of his assistance. Thank you so much Nigel!"
