PB hotel design editorial

Against the sheer sandstone walls of the Colorado Plateau, where Moab's Main Street meets the dramatic geometry of the surrounding canyon lands, Hoodoo Moab, Curio Collection by Hilton makes a considered architectural argument: that a full-service hotel can absorb its landscape rather than simply face it. The curved entry pavilion — clad in pale limestone and warm corten-toned panels that echo the iron-oxide geology behind it — wraps around a central arrival axis with floor-to-ceiling glazing pulling the desert light deep into the lobby. The three-story guestroom wings step back from the entrance in a massing that borrows the layered horizontality of the mesa formations visible from nearly every window. Inside the 145 rooms, walnut-toned wall panels and stone-accent headboards establish a palette calibrated to the terrain outside rather than to generic Southwest kitsch — the effect closer to a well-edited mountain lodge than a resort property hedging its bets. Pendant lighting in blackened steel, leather club chairs in cognac, and abstract patterned carpets that lift colors from the canyon floor carry that register through consistently. The restaurant dining room shifts register slightly, with stacked sandstone walls, exposed dark timber beams, and rattan-framed chairs lending a warmer, more tactile atmosphere that opens through black steel-framed accordion doors onto a terrace. The pool courtyard, terraced with boulders salvaged to mimic natural outcropping, lets the red cliffs of the Behind the Rocks wilderness area serve as a backdrop that no designer could reasonably improve upon.

"Our anniversary stay at the Curio Hotel by Hilton in Moab was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the hotel’s thoughtful styling stood out: modern, warm, and beautifully integrated with the surrounding red rock landscape. It strikes that rare balance of feeling upscale without ever feeling pretentious. The cleanliness throughout the property was impeccable. Every space, from the lobby to the guest rooms to the pool deck, felt fresh and meticulously maintained. It is clear the staff takes real pride in the environment they create. Speaking of staff, the service was consistently outstanding. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our stay special. They offered great local recommendations and made us feel celebrated for our anniversary. The views from the property are stunning, exactly what you hope for in Moab. Whether we were relaxing on the balcony or unwinding by the pool, the red cliffs framed every moment. The pool area itself is a highlight: spacious, stylish, and perfectly positioned to soak in the scenery. We also loved the layout of the hotel. It is easy to navigate, thoughtfully designed, and creates a sense of calm even when the town is buzzing. Everything feels intentional, from the room placement to the common areas. Overall, the Curio Hotel by Hilton is an exceptional choice for anyone visiting Moab and an especially memorable place for a romantic or celebratory getaway. We could not have asked for a better anniversary experience and would recommend it wholeheartedly."

"So glad we spent a little extra to choose this hotel for a two night stay on our road trip! It is one block off the beaten path (quieter) and all of the town is walkable. Pool and bar provided a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring the parks. All staff were super friendly and the place is extremely clean. Room was great - comfy beds, large bathroom. Our room, 355, was recommended by staff, and though it was a longer walk from the lobby, it was quiet and had nice views."

"Why don’t hotel designers actually stay just one night in the room? We stayed in a one bedroom suite so two of us had extra room. Two small closets with one drawer each. How does a family of four utilize this? There was kinda one bench which could be used for putting luggage on, but where does the rest go, all over the floor? And to make it more complicated there is a large heavy chair in front of one closet so it couldn’t be opened all the way and thus the drawer wouldn’t open either. Sure you could move the chair over but then you couldn’t get in/out of bed. The bathroom was large and spacious BUT it had only one towel hook. Once again how does a family of four utilize this? Housekeeping was a disappointment. Several people waiting for rooms at check in because rooms not ready. The first day, after a day of hiking in the parks, came back at 4:30 and room still not done. The next day housekeeping knocked on our door at 8:30am and said they would do the room in 15 minutes, but after another day of sweaty hiking and looking forward to a clean room came back at 4:30 to a still dirty room. That all being said, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL! The attention to design and finishes and art is superb. The lobby, restaurant, bar, pool, and even the hallways are beautiful. The staff was always friendly and helpful."

"We stayed at this amazing hotel for a work retreat and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms so incredibly comfortable. The staff were so kind to us and treated us so well. We had a wonderful experience using the meeting rooms and the pool and gym area. I cannot wait for my next trip down here, next time with my family! I recommend this hotel to anyone I know!"
