PB hotel design editorial

A 1926 building on Seattle's Fourth Avenue, originally constructed as a retail and residential block at the northern edge of Belltown, carries Hotel Andra's particular brand of Pacific Northwest restraint — understated on the outside, considered and warm within. The property, which joined Accor's MGallery collection, works through a design vocabulary assembled by New York studio Snowden Design: rich jewel tones, dark walnut millwork, and textured upholstery that reference Scandinavian modernism without mimicking it directly. The 119-room hotel rises across twelve floors, its public spaces grounded in a palette of deep teal, charcoal, and amber that shifts the mood from boutique hotel toward something closer to a well-appointed private library. Guest rooms carry the same chromatic seriousness — headboards upholstered in tonal fabrics, bedside lighting scaled for reading rather than effect, and windows that frame rooftop views across a neighbourhood that has changed considerably since the building first went up. The lobby integrates custom furniture alongside pieces that suggest European mid-century influence, while the ground-floor restaurant, Tom Douglas's Lola, pulls the property into Seattle's culinary identity rather than treating dining as an afterthought. What Hotel Andra navigates most successfully is the tension between a heritage structure and a design sensibility that feels genuinely contemporary — never trading on the building's age, but never pretending it isn't there.

"Room was great. I was in a deluxe king — great bed, well-stocked and reasonably priced minibar. Loved the plush robes with waffle weave on the outside and terry on the inside. Room had varied seating, well-placed plugs, and huge closet. Gym was too small and had a musty odor. Had plenty of treadmills but one bike and one elliptical, not impressive. Lola restaurant was excellent. I didn’t have a chance to go to dahlia bakery but everyone raved about it. Neighborhood was hit or miss. Tons of amazing coffee around but third ave didn’t necessarily feel safe even during the day."

"We stayed here three nights and we were extremely satisfied with our stay. The staff were helpful throughout and ensured we had everything we needed. The room was spacious and comfortable with comfortable bathrooms. The hotel bar and restaurant, Lola, is excellent and always had a relaxed atmosphere"

"Great room. This was an unexpected treat. Lots of space. Nice sitting area. Wonderful bathroom comfy beds. Will stay again. Loved the bakery across the road and the Italian restaurant next door. Our stay could not have been better."

"...features were a bit quirky, but overall it was fine. The bed was unusually low to the floor. A light hanging over the bar sink was oddly positioned very low at forehead level - doink! One spotlight on a pole had no on/off switch, and we couldn't find a wall switch that controlled it, so we unplugged it. The doorless shower with fixed glass combined with a single handle valve made it difficult to avoid a blast of cold water when first turning on the water. The overall sf size of our junior suite room was ample, but some bulky side chairs, table, and flat screen tv made the space feel cramped. Our room faced 4th Ave. and the soundproofing was good for most street traffic, except for a few late-night fire / police sirens which pierced right thru. The room was clean and the location was fine for our pre-cruise stay and for visiting a few downtown Seattle sights. Except for one homeless person interrupting our sidewalk dinner at the pizza restaurant directly across the street from the hotel, walking around was trouble-free. More hills than I was expecting though ;)"

"The furniture is lower to the floor than any other hotel I've seen.. A bit difficult to stand up from them - if you have back issues, you should consider a different hotel. (I'm 5'7" with some back issues, so I'll have to avoid this hotel chain in the future). Beds are very comfortable, squishy soft but adequately supportive. Great views of the hotel AC and a broken-down apartment building. Small bathroom, barely adequate counter, odd placement of towel racks. Hand towel rack located across the bathroom, so you have to reach with dripping hands. I solved the issue somewhat by opening the drawer below the sink, and closing one end of the towel on it so that it hund in front of sink. Slightly better. A towel shelf/rack located IN the shower seems rather impractical, but ok. of the 6 USB charge ports we found in the room, only 2 work. For such a pricey hotel, that's annoying. We were scrambling for plugs, and taking turns in charging, Not something I enjoy in a $400+ hotel. Otherwise it was quiet, comfortable, and bathroom plumbing worked well. We actually stayed 2 diff nights, and the first time was VERY annoying - it seems they hide everything. I learned to open any drawer I see. My husband actually went OUTSIDE the hotel and down the street somewhere to get ice. We later found bagged ice in the drawers of a piece of furniture across from the elevators 🙄. The second night we stayed, I had learned to hunt for things in drawers, but still couldn't find creamer for my coffee. I did open a drawer to find coffee pods, (which take a bit of experimentation to learn to use) but didn't realize the drawer opened more - the creamer was way in the back. They need to post some signage or instructions. Hotel isn't user-friendly to me."
