PB hotel design editorial

Positioned directly at the base of the Bridger Gondola in Teton Village, with ski-in, ski-out access so immediate that the lift machinery is visible in the exterior image, Caldera House was built around a premise that most mountain hotels only pretend to honor: that a small number of guests, in genuinely large suites, will always produce a better experience than a large number of guests in hotel-scaled rooms. The property holds just nineteen suites across four floors, the building's pitched cedar-clad volumes and stacked-stone base designed to anchor it against the Teton range rather than compete with it. The interiors, designed by Roman and Williams, carry the studio's characteristic insistence on furniture with a distinct object life of its own — a shearling-draped lounge chair beside a walnut-framed four-poster, a curved sage-green sofa facing a rubble-stone fireplace, Pendleton-influenced textiles layered over kilim-striped rugs. Globe pendant clusters on sinuous brass branches illuminate the common spaces with a warmth that lands somewhere between a 1960s Italian rationalist interior and a well-inherited ski lodge. The restaurant pulls the same thread: terracotta-upholstered banquettes, bleached-maple chairs with leather nailhead detailing, and floor-to-ceiling windows framing aspen groves. Nothing about Caldera House announces itself; the effect is one of deep material confidence, assembled for people who already know exactly where they are.

Caldera House Reviews

"We love our stay here. I love how small this hotel is, which allows all the guests to feel at home. All the staff are very friendly and eager to help. Rooms are very well decorated and designed. I especially love that some restaurants are reserved for hotel guests only to avoid a big crowd or long lines. One minor complaint is the room service; they tend to make mistakes with our orders, e.g., missing coffee and juice, and missing ingredients. We will come back to visit for sure, it's a very nice stay."

"Ended up coming here because another restaurant‘s kitchen had already closed for the night. Was extremely pleased with the menu selection and the overall quality of the food. Wanted to sit in the outdoor seating area so that I could enjoy the view with my meal, but the young lady at the hostess stand was nice enough to let us know that there was a reservation in an hour of when we would be seated so that we would not be rushing our meal. We chose inside with just as good of a view. Will definitely go back."

"A nice property that is subsidized by the private club members and the misappropriating of their dues for the benefit of the operating company. A tremendous benefit and value for the owners (Edens, Novogratz, Barry, and Nardone) and all that visit that do not pay dues. A real disadvantage to all private club members. It is unfortunate that Caldera LLC can only manage by relying on the backstop of their members, but that would take a skill that their mouthpiece EK does not have"

"Fantastic stay! Came on a girls trip the first week in Dec so it was a little before season really got going… it was very quiet time which we loved. The staff was so welcoming and accommodating. The concierge, Pam, is wonderful! She helped us organize airport transfers, dinner reservations and activities. The room was perfect with a full kitchen and stocked with everything you could possibly need. I would definitely recommend Caldera House and hope to come back."

"Hotels like this are a rarity: outstanding friendly, professional, personal service (Rommy on the concierge team would easily be hired by any 5 star hotel in the world), superb suites that take care of every need from high end kitchen appliances to a washer dryer to carefully professionally decorate rooms. Breakfast is included and room service comes at no extra cost. And of course the beauty of and access to the magnificent Teton mountains is right there at the Caldera doorstep. Whether hiking, sightseeing or skiing, the major lifts and gondola are easily accessed. If you see my other reviews you know I don't go on and on like this but Caldera House is very special. My son and I stayed there for four wonderful days. Don't miss it!"
