PB hotel design editorial

At the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, where Teton Village's ski-in, ski-out terrain meets the valley floor with the Teton Range rising directly behind, Hotel Terra was developed as an environmentally conscious alternative to the trophy-lodge aesthetic that dominates Wyoming mountain hospitality. Opened in 2008 and designed to LEED Silver certification standards, the five-story property brings 132 rooms and suites to one of North America's most dramatic alpine settings, its massing clad in board-and-batten siding and local fieldstone in a palette that echoes the region's vernacular ranch architecture without reproducing it literally. The exterior reads as contemporary mountain construction — wide-frame windows, steel cable railings, deep overhanging eaves — calibrated to sit comfortably within the village fabric rather than announce itself as a landmark. Inside, the interiors work a register that is warmer and more residential than the building's controlled exterior suggests. Guest rooms carry dark-stained wood case pieces, geometric-patterned wool rugs in charcoal and cream, sectional sofas upholstered in soft taupe, and gas fireplaces set into concrete surrounds with raw timber mantels — details visible across multiple room categories in the images. The restaurant deploys an industrial-craft vocabulary: Calacatta marble counter faces, blackened steel shelving suspended from exposed ceiling structure, reclaimed wood wall cladding, and bentwood cafe chairs that place the space closer to a confident urban bistro than a mountain lodge dining room. The heated outdoor pool, framed by the gondola line ascending into the Tetons, remains the property's most persuasive amenity.

"Long walk to the lifts considering it's called "ski in/out". You can ski back to the hotel, but to get TO the lifts, it's quite a long walk (uphill too). The lobby and restaurant/bar were lovely. The room had good storage. The bathroom had terrible lighting and water pressure. Unfortunately, the hotel had a hard time accommodating my very common request to have non-allergenic pillows (I'm allergic to down). They said they couldn't switch them out at 10:08pm bc the cleaning staff had already left for the day. Then after some back and forth, they offered up couch pillows as the only alternative. Additionally, the elevator was broken for at least 36 hours of our stay and we were on the 5th floor. There is only ONE elevator and when it doesn't work, there is nothing to do except walk up all 5 flights of stairs, everytime you come and go. My husband was on crutches and there was no service elevator or anything!! He had to hobble up and down in extreme pain to get to and from our room. Very disappointing overall! Especially for a "luxury" hotel."

"We had a situation whereby our pet of 17 years needed emergency care the day of our departure. We had to cancel our 3 night stay. I called the hotel and Tyler answered, with compassion and professionalism. I explained the situation, and we had a non refundable room, I might add, and pricey but, it's high season, ski in ski out and we were there only a few nights. He immediately offered to me not to worry and said "don't worry about the room, we'll refund it entirely, it's senseless for you to have to worry about a refund." I couldn't believe it!! He said he will ensure my record is properly documented and I received the refund within a few hours! Additionally I also spoke with Alyssa, the concierge, who handled our ski rentals smoothly and completely. She had been in touch with us 1 week prior to our arrival to offer her assistance w/transportation, rentals or reservations. Extremely impressed, with how quickly she responded to my inquiries and handling our situation. Will definitely be heading back there later this year. Highly recommended. Bravo Tyler and Alyssa!!"

"Great experience at Hotel Terra! The guest room had a wonderful view of the village and surrounding mountains. It was the perfect location for my ski trip as we were only a 3-minute walk to the Tram and Gondolas. The hotel has a complimentary ski valet to store skis, poles and ski travel tubes which was very helpful! After skiing I went to the spa to enjoy the steam room and rooftop hot tub, which was the perfect way to end the day. I wish I knew the lovely associate at the spa front desk to give her a shout out but she was so kind and welcoming every time I went to the spa. I highly recommend staying at Terra!"

"We have been skiing in Jackson Hole for nearly 30 years, until recently staying on the mountain (Teton Village) at the Alpenhof, which we loved for its informality and authenticity. Unfortunately, that hotel changed hands after the death of its longtime owner and went rapidly downhill (that's a subject for another review) so we switched a few years ago to the Terra, which we love. It's certainly not the Four Seasons, and that's a good thing, both in terms of value and ambiance. We've stayed there several times over the last three years. The rubber met the road last Christmas, when Jackson was the only mountain in North America with snow and the resort was slammed. Yes, there were hiccups: not enough housekeeping staff, elevator gremlins, overbooked restaurant (the excellent Osteria), but the hotel staff handled this with grace under pressure. We recently returned for Presidents' Day Week and it was smooth sailing all the way. We have already booked three weeks for 2026/7. The Terra is the Goldilocks price point -- not inexpensive, but worth it. If the Four Seasons is too rich for your pocketbook --or just too fancy for your taste -- this is a great choice."
