PB hotel design editorial

Wedged between the South China Sea and a granite-bouldered hillside accessible only by boat, the site that Six Senses Ninh Van Bay has inhabited since 2006 presented its designers with a constraint that became the resort's defining characteristic: nothing could be built without working around the landscape rather than against it. The result is a collection of 58 villas distributed across four terrain types — beachfront, hillside, water-edge, and the boulder villas whose plunge pools are carved directly into the rock faces visible from the bay — each structure raised on timber stilts and finished in thatch, reclaimed hardwood, and hand-split bamboo cladding that draws on vernacular Vietnamese fishing village construction without reducing it to pastiche. Inside, the atmosphere is closer to a well-loved boathouse than a managed resort experience. Wide-plank tropical hardwood floors run continuously from bedroom to open deck, canopied beds hang with sheer white mosquito nets suspended from bamboo ceiling frames, and the furniture — low teak daybeds with chartreuse cushions, woven rattan side tables — keeps the palette earthy and the visual weight close to the ground. The overwater spa and the main beach pavilion, visible in the images with their characteristic yellow parasols and teak sun loungers, share the same commitment to open-sided construction, allowing the forested hillside and the turquoise bay to function as the primary decorative gesture throughout the property.

"We stayed four nights at this oasis of tranquility and had a wonderful experience. We stayed in a Water Pool Villa, which was very spacious, with a beautiful terrace and a fantastic view. The restaurants are excellent in every aspect, both the quality of the food and the service are outstanding. The staff are extremely helpful, professional, and attentive. A special mention goes to the host / personal butler, who takes care of everything for you from before your arrival until after your departure. Very attentive, always available, yet discreet — exactly what you expect from a luxury and ecochic resort. Highly recommended for anyone looking for peace, comfort, and exceptional service. A true oasis of relaxation."

"Our family of 7 spent 6 nights here at this amazing place you can only call PARADISE!! From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed , we had 2 beach villas which are located beautifully on the beach but still slightly secluded with their own private pool as well we really had the best of both worlds . The food is just wow , the staff and all the thoughtful extras just make this island completely unique. A very very special mention to our personal assistant Tre he was the kindest loveliest most helpful and professional person we came across on our 3 week stay in Vietnam . He’s a really asset to the resort and we are truly grateful for your kind attention to all of the family . We can’t wait to come back !!!"

"My wife and I had a marvellous time at Six senses N V Bay. Rustic, shabby chic which for us makes the perfect relaxing break. Excellent food in all the restaurants, huge breakfast spread, well done chefs. We stayed in a rock pool villa which we loved, very large with all the comfort. It’s a trek to get there, which we loved. Once you’re there total peace and quiet, we guess young family’s don’t book them as it’s not child friendly! Nothing against young ones we had four, but at times we all need a break. Our Gem (guest experience manager) was called Near and he always was. He looked after our every need, Top man. It must have felt like Robinson Crusoe 20 years ago when it opened, but I fear the world is catching up with it and getting closer. Still a wonderful place."

"Welcome to Paradise 🙏🏻 Paradise must be the right description for this extraordinary hotel which is placed the absolute perfect place in a beautiful bay. Everyone is welcoming you and the standard is super high and at the same time a very relaxing atmosphere. It’s a super cool hotel which is focusing on sustainability and is actually producing their own solar energy, tapping water from their own source on glass bottles, growing tasteful vegetables for kitchens, having chickens and egg production, making cheese and on top of that reusing the leftovers from all food in their production! And it doesn’t stop here. Furthermore the hotel also protects the endangered black-shanked douc langur, which, by the way, is happily hanging out in the trees around us. We just say; wauw it is an amazing hotel! We will come back!"
