PB hotel design editorial

Dat Doc Beach on Con Dao — a Vietnamese archipelago better known for its French colonial-era prison camps than for resort tourism — sets an unlikely stage for Six Senses Con Dao, which opened in 2010 across a crescent of white sand backed by dense jungle-covered hills. The property was designed by architecture and interior studio Architrave Design & Planning, whose brief centred on making 50 pool villas feel as though they had grown from the landscape rather than been placed upon it. Low-slung structures clad in weathered timber and grey stone extend in a single file along the beachfront, their pitched roofs echoing the cadence of traditional Vietnamese fishing village architecture without resorting to pastiche. Inside, the mood is one of deliberate restraint. Warm teak lines the walls and ceilings, polished concrete floors extend to the threshold of private infinity pools that dissolve visually into the South China Sea beyond, and canopied beds draped in white muslin give the villas an unhurried, almost colonial-era atmosphere that suits the island's complicated history rather than ignoring it. Green accent cushions and hand-thrown ceramic vessels provide the only colour counterpoint to the predominantly natural palette. At the shared infinity pool, square stone lanterns mark the water's edge at dusk, their reflections doubling the sunset across still turquoise water — a composition that captures exactly what Architrave intended: a resort that earns its place by listening to its landscape.

"Six Senses Con Dao is special. I only spent 3 nights here (too short) but I already feel at home. The entire staff is exceptional and made me feel not only as their guest but as their friend. The beach is stunning, with clear and clean water. The turtle hatching is a once in a lifetime experience and the cuisine is excellent. Also the spa is worth one or more visits - Mrs. Rabica was amazing! What truly stands out is the welcoming and friendly atmosphere, relaxed and peaceful. Our GEM Annie was more than great and makes this stay unforgettable - she is the sweetest and most helpful Guest Experience Manager I can imagine. Also, the whole management team, front office, restaurant staff and activities team was amazing. This is a haven of hospitality, I would love to come back! :)"

"45 minute short flight will bring you to the paradise which is Six Senses Con Dao. 10 minutes in a super comfy transfer will bring you to a beach side dream. A lovely outside bar that serves delicious food, shops, ice cream parlour (11-4 complimentary ice cream and sorbets, dangerous :) ) I stayed in a 1 bedroom beach villa, a duplex with a huge bathroom and outside shower downstairs. Opening onto your own pool and a few steps from their private beach. The accom is stunning and off the bedroom upstairs a balcony with sweeping views of the beach and outer islands. Tea and coffee making facilities.air con in the main bedroom. The spa facilities are second to non, sitting over the water like a serene spa village the treatment rooms provide and tranquil place to relax and rejuvenate. The best massage I have ever had in my life. Six Senses substantially is always at the forefront with turtles (see below) their own gardens for vegetation and herbs, chickens for their eggs, home grown mushrooms and the alchemy bar. Book a session and make soap (using recycled cooking oil) or face and body scrubs with all recycled materials. Take a sunset cruise with bubbles and a bento box, paddle on the sea on their paddle boards or even chill around the communal pool (or not!) The breakfast is truly international and a huge spread. Including the cold room with a wide selection of meats, jams, breads, honey etc. the egg station will give you a sunny side up or omelette if your choice. If you fancy a Vietnamese breakfast you can create a Pho or other tropical delights. Fresh juices, teas and coffees. (Cold Vietnamese will wake you up!) The chef Suresh is a true master of his art. Brining Michelin star experience with some of the list famous chefs experience in the world. This man is a culinary genius. Private dining tasting menu was mind blowing. Cappuccino mushroom soup. 10’s across the board. Turns a nice experience into something special. For a Vietnamese experience book the hot pot for 2 people. Make a traditional hot pot with all fresh ingredients guided by an expert hand. The freshest of fresh.l and delicious We were very lucky to witness the first turtle release of the season. They incubate them in a special hatchery and release them once they hatch. A spectacle and such a very special moment. See pics. This was. 6pm release. Then the following day, the 2nd batch of eggs hatched. 6am release. Very very special. You will learn a lot during the talk before the release. Make sure you are there early to secure a spot. I hope they can share a moment like this with you. Lastly and by no means least. You are allocated a GEM (guest experience manager) who will look after you while you are there. If you are lucky you will get Annie. She is amazing, attentive, pro actor and a little superstar. Any questions you can WhatsApp and she can arrange all kinds. Just ask. I’ve experienced other GEMS and similar but no one as good as Annie. Thank you !"

"My wife and I stayed four nights at the Six Senses Con Dao resort at the end of visit to Vietnam. The property is amazing, the food is wonderful and the staff really strive to make your stay at the property amazing. The beach is completely private and very long which is amazing as sometimes it feels like you are the only ones on it. Our stay was in a one bedroom beachfront which was incredible as we could walk straight out to the beach from our room. Bikes are provided for each room to cycle around the property or simply get to the restaurant or spa if your room is a little further away. Alternatively, a resort staff person can be called to drive you in a golf cart. Breakfasts there are probably the most extensive we saw at the various places we stayed in Vietnam. All guests are assigned a Guest Experience Manager (GEM) who is available to set up excursions, address concerns or small needs during our stay. Our GEM, Annie, was excellent. There is a lot offered here and it’s impossible to do it all. All in all, an amazing stay at this luxury resort."
