PB hotel design editorial

Lam Son Square, where the old French colonial quarter of Ho Chi Minh City reaches its most composed and ceremonial, provided the address for Park Hyatt Saigon when it opened in 2005 — a purpose-built property whose architects conceived a cream-rendered facade in the French Indochine manner, complete with louvered shutters, articulated cornices, and a stepped roofline crowned by a dark dome that places the building in deliberate conversation with the nearby Opera House. The nine-storey structure wraps around a courtyard garden and pool terrace that, lit at dusk, carries the atmosphere of a colonial-era city club translated into something more generous and hotel-scaled. The 245 rooms draw their character from a palette of warm champagne wallcovering, hand-tufted floral wool carpets in gold and sage, and dark-stained mahogany beds with tufted cream headboards — furniture that evokes French provincial cabinetry filtered through a tropical sensibility, ceiling fans completing the period register without irony. Louvered French doors in the terrace-facing rooms open onto private balconies screened by mature frangipani. The restaurant interiors, refreshed in a more recent intervention, introduced a lighter Scandinavian-influenced vocabulary — oak tables, plaid-upholstered dining chairs, rattan bentwood seating — that sits against the original white-painted colonnade and floor-to-ceiling louvred glass walls, pulling the lush courtyard garden into the dining room's sightlines with considerable ease.

"This is one of the most beautiful, elegant and classy hotels I've ever stayed in. It comes at a slightly higher price point but totally worth the splurge when visiting Vietnam. Still much cheaper than what you'd spend on this caliber of hotel in the US. Complimentary use of the steam room where I was served tea and a ginger and lotus, easy check-in, beautiful rooms, great location. The breakfast buffet was delightful as well, try the pho and banh mi. Will return on my next trip to Vietnam!"

"Park Hyatt Saigon is an oasis of peace and calm amidst the hustle and bustle of HCM city. Smack in the middle of district 1, it is within walking distance of many attractions such as the Opera House, independence palace, Japan street, walking street and shopping malls. Hotel is a tad old in the classical manner and charming, tip top facilities with a very nice pool and fitness centre. Rooms were well appointed and clean, but be aware that the shutters don’t blackout the room totally. It’s a very good stay for the price I paid and I look forward to returning."

"It is the best location if you are visiting Saigon for the first time or traveling for sightseeing. Most popular restaurants and shopping spots are within a 15-minute walk. I have traveled abroad extensively, but the staff at this hotel were the friendliest of all."

"This is a wonderful hotel! Very elegant, excellent service from beginning to the end! Every single person that we interacted with! We were fortunate to get an upgraded room. So we have a very large spacious Park Executive Suite - we had booked a Lam Son Suite, so our room was a quite a bit larger than expected. The bed is VERY comfortable and the amenities outstanding. Very well stocked and excellent housekeeping. I particularly liked that they provided bath salts each day!! The concierge was exceptional - answering so many of my questions before we arrived and during our visit. In fact all of the staff was wonderful. I loved the pool - which was a relaxing way to spend the afternoons and surprisingly refreshing! the water was the perfect temperature. I regretted not booking a Spa service since the Spa looked very nice. In terms of meals, the breakfast was outstanding and an excellent value. Square one - their restaurant was ok, but we did not enjoy the afternoon tea very much. The location of the hotel is excellent. Overall a wonderful experience and we highly recommend."

"Park Hyatt Saigon exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, every detail was handled with genuine warmth and professionalism. The hotel itself is beautiful, with timeless décor that feels elegant rather than overdone. The location is outstanding—right in the heart of District 1 and within easy walking distance of many of the city’s best restaurants, cafés, shopping, and attractions. The service is what truly sets this hotel apart. Every member of the team was consistently friendly, attentive, and eager to help. They made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay The food was excellent, the bar had a fantastic atmosphere , and every part of the property was impeccably maintained. It’s clear that the hotel takes great pride in delivering a world-class guest experience. I’ve been fortunate to stay at many luxury hotels around the world, and Park Hyatt Saigon ranks among the very best. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City."
